Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Translation: "give me enough money and I'll promote whatever you want."

Most presidents at least pretended they couldn't be bought.

He on the other hand is haggling openly and then brags about it.

And his moron followers are proud of him 🙄

He's going to "drain the swamp" and replace it with an auction house.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I thought he was draining the swamp so he could sell swamp water?

Turns out "playing 4D chess" is just MAGA politikese for "broadcasting our corruption loudly and assuming enough people are also either too corrupt, ignorant, or disaffected to do anything about it."

Nah. Imo, this is him telling oil company that they need to step up and fully fund his requests for money "or else". Didn't he recently ask the oil industry for an insane amount of money at the beginning of his campaign or something?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 30 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That's not really contradicting what I'm saying.

[–] LilDumpy@lemmy.world 22 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

No, you're right. But I think this is specifically a message to the oil industry.

[–] NegativeInf@lemmy.world 21 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Except he doesn't sell himself to the highest buidder, he'll sell out to any and all of them at the same time.

I thought you were supposed to not admit to the bribe.

The argument has always been, “No, we just give to candidates who support our cause.” Of course everyone knows that’s BS, because the support always follows the cash. But then here comes this dumbass and just- up and admits to corruption.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 57 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's OK, the Supreme Court has confirmed that bribes are totally legal now.

Incredible way to openly admit that your policy agenda is for sale to the highest bidder.

[–] fluckx@lemmy.world 159 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (3 children)

How the US does not read this as: "I was bribed by the CEO of < company > to enact policies that benefit them" is beyond me.

Be better America.

[–] barsquid@lemmy.world 49 points 2 years ago (3 children)

A large swath of the US are people with a single braincell bouncing around their skull like a DVD logo.

Our society is crumbling into disrepair. Politicians openly solicit quid pro quo. This flagrantly corrupt culture needs a shock.

Translation: Elon musk is giving me money and is calling me a cool guy. I have to help him.

[–] NutWrench@lemmy.world 60 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Trump says the quiet part ("I am totally bribe-able") out loud, all the time because he's a complete freaking idiot. There is no filter between his mouth and what's left of his brain.

This is the real Trump. The moron. This isn't "off the cuff","exaggeration" or "locker room talk" Believe people when they show you what they really are.

[–] ProvableGecko@lemmy.world 21 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (3 children)

because he's a complete freaking idiot.

The scary part is nobody's listening. I can scream at the top of my lungs the fact that vaccines are harmless but measles outbreaks are increasing. People out there hunting immigrants while the 1% pockets their surplus value.

People aren't thinking, they are just reacting on emotions.

And funnily enough, if Trump were to be elected, then suddenly Trump would forget about how much Elon helped him. Trump has a terrible record for keeping contracts, so I don't think he's good with returning favors.

God damnit, yesterday I explained to someone in another thread what Trump meant when he said he could get Elon to kneel and beg, that Trump as President could revoke EV subsidies and/or heavily influence or defund NASA such that they stop funding SpaceX.

I did not expect this goddamned moron to just actually say as much, directly, out loud, 12 hours later.

Just waiting for MAGA idiots to start buying EVs to "own the libs". I mean, I'd rather people shift to EVs because it's less damaging to the environment; but, a win is a win, I guess.

OK, LGBTQ organizations, Librarians, Pro-Choice organizations, and Satanic Temple - you know what to do now. He'll have no choice but to support you and then what will his base do? Checkmate magas!! ;)

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Trump endorsed EVs for $180 million, I wonder what his rock-bottom lowest price is?

Twenty bucks?

[–] Fuckfuckmyfuckingass@lemmy.world 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There's an anecdote I've seen a few times on the Internet about a newspaper in the 80s sending rich people checks for tiny amounts of money, like $.15, just to see who'd cash 'em. Trump was the only one who did.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 20 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Lol so he just said that he can't argue with being bought. Hmm, noticed the "drain the swamp" tagline coincidentally has faded out since 2015.

[–] meleecrits@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago

MAGA nut jobs: wtf, I love EVs!

[–] jaemo@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 years ago (3 children)

It's funny to see the aesthetic transformation of Tesla's vehicles overlaid with the timeline of Musk's weirdification. I mean he was always a shitheel fuck, but in the past he was a lot more confused about who to game and how to game them.
