They'll just come up with some nonsensical excuse. Look at the ones that setup experiments in 'Behind the Curve'. They setup I think 2 different experiments that show results you would expect from a spherical earth and they hand wave it away. You can't logic someone out of a belief they didn't logic their way into.

There was also the factor of if the general public would even be able to use them in a functional manner. Which I can say from some of the stupid ways I saw people wearing them, is not an unfounded worry.

Fedora is limited to non-licensed products in the base repos IIRC. But there is EPEL and RPMfusion that provide a lot of additional packages.

There are also copr repos which I think are similar to AUR in that they are user submitted.
