I think you underestimate how long the term has been around, and I've hidden nothing. I accept the shitty person I was. Have you confronted your deficiencies as a human being?

If you accept the shitty person you "were," why did you just produce a cruel estimation of some other person online just because you found their behaviour cringe again? This is the kind of "acceptance" people adopt when they feel guilt but don't want to change. It's also so telling to write off actual malice and cruelty in such a fundamental way as "well we all do had things." No, I've never had the inclination to treat a vulnerable person badly, go figure.

I want to congratulate you for having a normal upbringing, then. It is kind of crazy to see how many of you think you're using some kind of common sense. You guys hate it when people can read your values from your words, it seems like many of you find comfort in the notion that knowing people perceive it as bad allows you to hide the fact that you don't actually challenge bigoted values in yourself.
This commenter went on to use this example to pretend incels are like cringey shippers, and that should tell you everything about their values. It's not "jumping to conclusions," when it's just deduction.

My first paragraph in reply was in reference to you patting yourself on the back for never having a cruel thought. I admit, I should have clarified rather than jumping into vitriol.
Do you genuinely not understand why someone would search for exceedingly harmful words for a person trying something this creepy? I feel like I need to understand that before I can begin to understand anything else you've said.
And I recognize my long road. My first comment was actively chiding me. This is like going to AA and going "I think these people are addicts."
It is honestly so difficult to explain to people like this that they're being harmful even when they recognize one element of that harm and take it as the endpoint. You just compared this to an online cultural space that literally advocates for and has facilitated dozens of mass murders under the premise of misogyny and aggrieved entitlement. Maybe if those things are comparable to you, you aren't the right person to be talking about it, and presuming you are is exactly what the issue is.
If you call someone an asshole, that is not the same thing as calling them a slur, and either choice represents different kinds of people. It is not that you were a big stinky meanie, but that the beliefs behind these words are fundamentally bigoted. Yes, fucking lolcow culture that enabled the mass harassment of disabled people, often younger, sometimes even to the point of suicide, is not a suitable thing to refer to some person being weird about something you find gross. Even if you look at this as harassment, comparing it to fascist terrorists only serves to obscure the specificity and ideology of that culture and its very real politics as well as the hundreds of people who have been killed because of it (and that's without even addressing how this culture is directly linked to the current popularity of fascist politics in the US, then we're really talking about a mass scale of suffering you think is trivial).

I want to thank you once again for clarifying, what I did was objectively deeply shitty, but I understand completely that there is nothing of value to be gained for either one of us in continuing this conversation. Genuinely, none of what you just wrote here is necessary. This person isn't offering anything remotely close to reasonable criticisms. They're just a faux leftist who has identified you as someone that it's socially acceptable for them to bully.
Some of what they said comes from candid misunderstandings and absence of information, but I did look it up. Lolcow is, indeed, utilized as a slur in current day. I definitely do not want to utilize a word that hits more strays than targets, which is where my appreciation lies.
And I certainly wouldn't call them a faux leftist. Just someone who was deeply hurt by something and lashing out without regard for any attainable constructive end goal. That was decades of my life, so I see them and I can meet them where I need to be met. Regardless of their intent, I gleaned immensely useful information from them, and I highly value it. Their continued action meets my needs as a person far better than asking them to simmer down, and my comment above is my best attempt at having my needs met.

I believe they took offense, leading them to act uncharacteristically. I firmly believe that they are a good person. Weighing someone unaccustomed to being in the middle of an argument, while they feel unsafe, certainly isn't fair to them.

It's completely in character for me to challenge fascists when I see them. You people seriously have to develop a more nuanced understanding of yourselves. Just because you know something is wrong without knowing why, doesnt mean you've stopped doing the wrong thing. Good people aren't just people who are lucky enough to not make bad decisions, it's about fostering the discipline and accountability to interrogate your actions and challenge their underlying harmful values; you clearly have not done that work.
