Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who was elected to the Senate in 2003 and was a close political ally of President Donald Trump, has died, his office confirmed early Sunday. He was 71.

Graham died Saturday night “from a brief and sudden illness,” his office said in a statement.

Maybe if both Trump and McConnell die today we can create a new national holiday. Both are in hospital.

Right above this in my Lemmy feed I saw this gem

[–] elbucho@lemmy.world 74 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's so rare these days to see positive stories in the news.

We'll get another once they let a non partisan doctor in to check McConnell's vitals.

"I have never wished for aans death, but I have read obituaries with great satisfaction.". - Mark Twain

Ah, who am I kidding? I wish for peoples deaths all the time, and this MAGA scumbag is one of them.

I was shocked when I saw this headline, and figured it was the Onion. I had to read it several times, then Google it to confirm.

He's really dead! DING! DONG! THE WITCH IS DEAD!

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 42 minutes ago

I would have preferred he lingered in a state of horrible suffering, tbh.

[–] Murse@slrpnk.net 17 points 1 day ago

Yeah the whole 'moral high ground' shit of not wishing death on anyone only serves to protect evil people from vigilante justice.

The best response to a tumor is excision.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I suspect Mark Twain only felt that way because the internet didn't exist so he wasn't exposed to literally all of the evil things these people tend to do.

People as bad existed in the past, but due to limited communication technology their ability to screw over the entire planetary population was severely limited.

Just had a 20 minute call with him

[–] Astronut@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 day ago (3 children)

What did he have to say about Hell?

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 day ago

That it was not as hot as "up top" will be in about 40 years time and that he was happy that his legacy would be around to hurt millions of people for decades to come.

Rest in piss you piece of shit.

[–] Astronut@lemmy.zip 18 points 1 day ago

You’re absolutely wrong about him. He was a PILE of shit, not a piece!

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Well with possibly McConnell being dead, and now Graham definitely being dead.. we all know these things happen in 3s.

Fingers crossed?

It’s a shame.

That it was brief.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 51 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Shouldn't this be in Uplifting News?

[–] bluesheep@sh.itjust.works 30 points 1 day ago (26 children)

No, because it was a "brief and sudden" illness. Doesn't sound like he suffered

The crabs are confused about who they're raving for. Weren't they waiting for some other guy? But, oh well! A party's a party!

i hope every minute was fucking painful. i hope he saw the end coming and was terrified. i hope he suffered as much as the suffering he caused over his terrible lifetime.

[–] ulkesh@piefed.social 11 points 1 day ago

Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

Well I can think of some more, I suppose.

[–] ghostpony@infosec.pub 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is so sad! It should’ve been a long and slow death full of suffering and despair.

It's times like this that I wish I was a believer, so I could take satisfaction in knowing he's going through Hell Orientation, and having a really unpleasant time.

Unfortunately, I don't believe, so I don't get the full schadenfreude experience, but it's good enough.

Looks like the governor appoints someone to serve in his seat for the next six months; his term was up in January, anyway, unless he won re-election. Not sure if his seat will be filled in the general election or they'll call a special election to fill it.

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Sounds like there will be a lot fewer people filling his seat from now on.
