Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Has he actually explained a plan to even "cut our taxes" because if I recall every tax proposal that's come up raises the taxes on people living paycheck to paycheck.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 43 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

gotta pay for the tax cuts for the wealthy some how--it all can't come from cuts to essential social services, or by increasing the national debt, ya know.

[–] Bob_Robertson_IX@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The tariffs are going to pay for the tax cuts, duh.

No wonder the pope had a stroke after talking to this guy

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 19 points 10 months ago

I hope Pope willfully took an exit to talk to The Guy about this couchlover.

Welp, time for him to suffer similarly. As a public employee, his salary should be $7.25/hr, and have $10 in his checking account.

[–] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Wait, you guys have $10? /s

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Due to inflation, it's now only worth three fiddy.

Screw that! He should be put on SSI! $2k cap on assets & forced to spend a third of his income on rent or forfeit it. See how fun this economy really is!

Republicans and Trump Admin Will Garnish Struggling Borrowers' Wages as Student Loan Payments Resume

The Trump administration on Monday announced that it will resume involuntary collection measures against defaulted federal student loan recipients, including garnishing wages, tax refunds, and Social Security benefits and "other actions to help borrowers get back into repayment," as the U.S. Department of Education euphemistically said.

"Resuming collections protects taxpayers from shouldering the cost of federal student loans that borrowers willingly undertook to finance their postsecondary education," DOE said in a statement notifying the public that collections will resume May 5. "This initiative will be paired with a comprehensive communications and outreach campaign to ensure borrowers understand how to return to repayment or get out of default."

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 15 points 10 months ago

Taxpayers wouldn’t have to shoulder that debt if it were simply canceled.

I know republicans would never dare make it easier on students to learn, but, this argument is bs.

[–] emmanuel_car@fedia.io 18 points 10 months ago (2 children)

three missed meals

I thought it was 9, but I guess with intermittent fasting, it could be the same time frame

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Sorry, I guess I was thinking about cats.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

JD Vance was justifiably bullied in school

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 10 points 10 months ago

I'll deal with it, but could you be a dear and come show me how, in person? And no need to bring any form of security, half the people on this street are former marines, specwar navy, an army Ranger, and about a dozen former national guard. They'll all be here to ensure security of the country.

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

You know there was a time when an administration tried to woo their base

[–] Goretantath@lemm.ee 9 points 10 months ago

The first president of Estonia after regaining our independence, was once quoted saying "The situation is shit, but it's the fertilizer of our future."

The meaning is very similar, in that he was saying that the hard times need to be suffered for things to get better, but what's different between him and the current American administration? Well, for one, the situation wasn't shit because of his personal ego trade war, it was shit because the economy was shit in every ex-soviet nation for a time. It took time to accustom to independence and free markets. But most of all, he spoke from a place of respect, not one of disrespect. Him saying that was his honesty to the Estonian people. He didn't lie and say everything would get good quickly. This was also a man you could simply approach publicly and he'd answer your questions. Didn't need to be a press release and you didn't need to be a journalist or a celebrity.

What I'm saying is that dear Americans, your current president and vice president simply don't respect you.

[–] GoofSchmoofer@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Fuck you, JD

So what is the actual strategy at this point? They are being way too bold about this. Like I'm worried they have an escape pod that they're planning to hop on/fly away while they flip us all off and leave us stranded on a smoldering earth.

The goal is to cause civil unrest, to declare martial law and violently put down the unrest. To fragment the US into micro nations, tech cities governed by oligarchs, as well as Christofascist Gileads.

It’s accelerationism, it’s been accelerationism, the weirdos on /pol/ and Mencius Moldbug have been pretty clear on that.

“Why don’t you just ask your dad for some money?”

[–] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

[if] we pursue those energy cost reducing policies...

I see only energy cost increasing policies, the recent forced shutdown of that 800 MW offshore wind farm, no more land leasing for renewables, policies to increase water pressure (=more energy required for pumps and for treating the water), and so on

[–] SaintOwlPizza25@lemm.ee 6 points 10 months ago

I can't even watch the video, like the hell you're fighting to bring prices down
