I hate this so much.

I like to have reference images when I do pixel art and now I can't find pictures of things.

I find the AI slop of it instead...

Whenever you search, put before:2023 and you'll cut almost all slop out.

Oh, same but for chalk art! I tried using an AI image as reference that I found in a search and it's not the same. It's a watered down version of what I want. It's all perfectly boring.

Curious: what tools do you use for pixel art? I made a Playdate game, and just fooled around in GIMP, but it could have been a lot easier.

I use Aseprite and love it.

You can pay the $19 (something llike that) to the Dev or, if you know how, you can compile it yourself for free.

It's just for pixel art and animating, so it's nicely stripped down for that purpose imo.

it's on sale for $13!!! https://store.steampowered.com/app/431730/Aseprite/

it's such an intuitive tool for these purposes

[–] karashta@piefed.social 2 points 23 hours ago

Always love to see!

I got it through Humble Bundle years ago.

I agree! It's quite intuitive to me.

Check out Pixelorama for an alternative to Aseprite.

500px is still an okay site, for now

Then what's the point of Stock Images if its just gonna be AI.

[–] BroBot9000@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

To make money. They don’t care what they sell only that they can sell it without copyright

Trypophilia

I’d gone years without being too wigged out about it until now, eugh. Probably doesn’t help that I recently read a body horror novel.

Rabbit hole: It didn’t occur to me before now that the supernormal stimulus aspect of genai also applies to things that trigger phobias or strong disgust reactions (for the people who want to be pedants about the word trypophobia). I wonder if people with spider phobias rate AI images as scarier than real images of spiders?

Edit: omg why can’t I hide a post on piefed 😭

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

some dystopian horror shit right there.

”Premium”

[–] NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I would pay for this horror to never appear on my screen again.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

New AI monthly subscription model. $30 a month or your worst nightmares flash on your screen uncontrollably from time-to-time. More like the early internet, I suppose.

Honestly, that's fine so long as AI images are tagged appropriately, filterable, and priced accordingly. Stock images is one of few legitimate uses for AI, in my opinion.

looks like a good investment
