Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Don't take this lightly.

This continues to set the stage for a coup against state officials.

The Republicans are big proponents of states rights though.

Only for the Right States

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

And only really for slavery or forced child births

[–] mox@lemmy.sdf.org 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

From what I've seen, it looks more like they are big proponents of whatever excuse they can find to push their agenda. "States' rights" just happens to be a convenient excuse.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They said they were and I don't think they'd say something without meaning it.

Good point, Satan

Just trolling, based on their other replies.

They said they were and I don't think they'd say something without meaning it.

Y'know, I can see the Republicans turning this around...

"Look, Liberals are all about State Rights! You know who else was all about State Rights? SLAVE OWNERS"

[–] surfrock66@lemmy.world 131 points 1 year ago

Man pushing the narrative that Trump sent the military into a liberal state to fix things with positive results is surely not a precursor to anything sinister...

“Oh, you mean the hammock district!”

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Hank Scorpio : Uh, hi, Homer. What can I do for you?

Homer : Sir, I need to know where I can get some business hammocks.

Hank Scorpio : Hammocks? My goodness, what an idea. Why didn't I think of that? Hammocks! Homer, there's four places. There's the Hammock Hut, that's on third.

Homer : Uh-huh.

Hank Scorpio : There's Hammocks-R-Us, that's on third too. You got Put-Your-Butt-There.

Homer : Mm-Hmm.

Hank Scorpio : That's on third. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot... Matter of fact, they're all in the same complex; it's the hammock complex on third.

Homer : Oh, the hammock district!

Hank Scorpio : That's right.

Instead, the agency said, the federal government "restarted federal water pumps after they were offline for maintenance for three days," adding: "State water supplies in Southern California remain plentiful."

This means that those "federal water pumps" can be turned off at Trump's whim.

Where were you when the Water Wars started?

Where’s Kevin Costner when we need him most

[–] neatobuilds@lemmy.today 5 points 1 year ago

Trump saw a solder washing their hands.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

He saw a billionaire farmer watering their crops and assumed he had to be responsible.

[–] DemBoSain@midwest.social 28 points 1 year ago

So write the headline the way it should be written:

Trump Lies About Sending Military Into California

[–] a_baby_duck@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

The actual tweet:

"The United States Military just entered the Great State of California and, under Emergency Powers, TURNED ON THE WATER flowing abundantly from the Pacific Northwest, and beyond," Trump wrote. "The days of putting a Fake Environmental argument, over the PEOPLE, are OVER. Enjoy the water, California!!!"

So more regressive nonsense to derail environmental protections and pose himself as a savior to people that can't or won't fact check.

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 12 points 1 year ago

Turned on the water…. For farms, who over use water.

Trump: water never runs out!! This isn’t a plot to drain California dry to destroy it.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

It should be automatic by now that everything that comes out of that orange shithole is a fabrication

[–] Stamau123@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

The giant cartoon water valve is the next sharpie hurricane
