Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

New Discord clone ("Harmony") with a suspiciously AI-looking website, a single contributor, and blistering development = AI. Took me a minute to find it but it looks like they were scrubbed from a few places ~3 weeks ago.

Yes the new frontier model from EvilCorp: people2.0

[–] HCSOThrowaway@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

If someone hasn't already tried that, they will.

17 em dashes in comments... yeah that's slop

You're right to push back — this does appear to be AI generated.

[–] RichardDegenne@lemmy.zip 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Em dashes in comments though?

[–] gothmog@lemmy.today 6 points 9 hours ago

I'm sorry about that -- I'll adjust my responses accordingly.

I've been using an em-dash for ages. Now people think I'm either a bot or use an AI to write for me. This is ridiculous.

You use em-dashes in code comments? It has its place in regular prose, but a comment is not a novel

[–] SwooshBakery624@programming.dev 8 points 17 hours ago

Definetly not in code comments. I mean in general.

Thank you for your training data.

I understand your frustration. It helps me personally to remember that it's not quite GenAI that is the problem—it's the greed that surrounds its implementation/usage. GenAI could have been just a tool, occasionally useful, but our obsession with productivity and the capitalistic goal of replacing workers to get even more profit for the owning class—or in other words just personal greed—is the real problem, not GenAI.

I think you could use -o instead of regex? not sure :D

$ git clone https://github.com/y4my4my4m/harmony && grep -Ro "—" harmony | wc -l
[–] QuantumEraser@fedia.io 3 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

The regex is to match only em dashes in comments (following a //). If you want to search for all em dashes you can just do that (though there's no need for the -o since grep matches lines and wc -l counts lines).

[–] nibbler@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

And grep -c spares the wc -l

makes sense, thx for the explanation :)

It's alright. As far as Matrix clients go, I like Sable. But Fluxer is on another level, I've really been enjoying it.
