Supporting Palestine is actually a far more popular sentiment than what the rich care to realise. They just don't want to lose the wallets of tiny minority of 20% of bigots as potential customers. It's like with many businesses complying with conservative backlash but end up losing more customers and revenue for bending over. Target complied with anti-DEI measures from Trump, while Costco didn't. Guess which of the two got more customers. That's why the accusations of "go woke, go broke" does not hold water at all.

[–] Nonprophet@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

I think it's cuz they were so successful with the Bud Light thing... but only severe rednecks drink that shit, so of course the boycott was successful! There was no one on the other side who cared enough about ANYTHING to drink that swill in support!

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 51 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Can we also talk about how his #1 song is promoting heterosexuality? More than 80 % of children who heard Shape of You in the 2010s now identify as heterosexual, and it continues to air on the radio and show up on streaming services without as much as a content warning. What the fuck?

[–] REDACTED@infosec.pub 45 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

One of those comments that's so ridiculous you can't tell if the person is trolling or whether they're serious

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 13 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Haven't you seen all the man × woman romantic pairings in the media and now even IRL? Now even kindergarteners are playfully kissing other kids of the opposite sex! It's a pandemic! /s

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

My mom and dad have been doing this schtick for fucking years, by now. It's like, we get it! Enough! It's barely even funny anymore!

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (3 children)

So you're just going to downplay the dramatic rise in shapely women post-that song?

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 3 points 20 hours ago

Well, heroin-chique is back in fashion again.

[–] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It takes a while to grow those kinds of women.

I bet these are still remnants of "Baby got Back" by MC Hammer.

[–] HeHoXa@lemmy.zip 2 points 17 hours ago

This comment... I can't touch this.

Also, his song "sapphire" celebrated and supported India and now there's more than a billion Indians.

[–] Generica@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I support his lifestyle but I don't want it rubbed in my face!

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 2 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

People today are like "just let straight boys and girls express themselves" but how could we, now that we know heterosexuality is the leading cause of teen pregnancies?! I don't think it makes sense to research a cure though, most heterosexuals won't take it: we should encourage them to only engage with their fantasies in safe ways.

[–] Tacky4092@feddit.org 7 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Eating bread has made me a hetero!

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 1 points 18 hours ago

Sad to see the many ways the condition can be triggered... Support our class action lawsuit against Sheeran and if we win, you'll have a precedent to point to in your legal feud with the bakery.

The entire thing comes at a rather unfortunate time. He was trying to save up for a second private jet, and this is exactly why he always said it’s better to leave politics out of it.

That said, it’s shocking that a bland artist making unmemorable over produced garbage has no moral spine either.

I really wish they would stop calling him an artist. He’s a businessman, like the Zuck, like Musk and like Trump. And this is how a businessman reacts when something is bad for business.

[–] mantricx@lemmy.world 74 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This whole thing is even more ridiculous. This backlash isn’t happening because he was silent on the genocide, he’s been silent on it for years. It’s happening because he as the headliner allowed his tour mates to be excluded due to their speech. At no point did he need to denounce the genocide, he just had to speak up internally and say “well that’s Macklemore's opinion on it and I’m not going to stifle a fellow artist's speech like that”.

[–] SirLeToet@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Yeah this totally warrants the first course of action the American people take against, not even a scumbag, just a mediocore jerk.

Meanwhile, trump is president, musk is still there, the whole epstein thing, the US ranking #1 on the crimes against humanity in this century.

But frontpage full of Ed being a jackass.

It is quite entertaining to see this be so popular among the American people. Yes, Ed Sheeran should absolute be on the top of the list of people to be canceled.

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, a bunch of venues threatened to not let him play... which I'm pretty sure he could've spun into a PR boost by making a public statement about it, just like all his supporting acts did. Even for those parts of his audience that doesn't care about politics, him calling out the venue owners might direct the backlash at them instead. Hell, maybe other bands would make statements about not playing at those venues too. It would have been a bold move, but he can take the financial hit, and there's a chance at least some venues might have backed down. It would have been the right thing to do.

Like you say, he wouldn't even have to make a statement on genocide directly, just about freedom of speech, artistic expression or something along those lines. There have been other recent instances of artists either cancelling shows in solidarity or using the stage for a statement in support of their fellows. Even this kind of "middle of the road" take would've been better, and probably smarter too. Setting the precedent that venue owners can push him around can't possibly be a sensible idea.

[–] mantricx@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

100%. Maybe get more ironclad contracts next time when planning a world tour if he doesn’t want to take the hit next time, but just eat it here if they push him to it.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 28 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Seems like he was saving up for relocating to the US.

He was just trying to blend in with his pals in the local oligarchy.

[–] irish_link@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Nashville huh… I would make a joke about red states but to be honest Nashville has its progressive parts. However his money will inevitably come from MAGA supporters.

[–] goosehorse@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Nashville sucks, of course he would move there lmao

If only shit like this came back to hurt zuck, musk, or trump. Then you realize tons of it does, but it somehow goes unoticed with them for some reason.

Oh they notice. It infuriates them that they can't mind control everyone into loving them like they have with the MAGA movement.

Today, kids, Ms. Rachel is going to teach everyone about all the different meanings for the word “chicken.” Yay!

Ok I applaud this author, that was funny.

Thank you for the context. As sick as I am of watching her videos she really is based.

[–] W98BSoD@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

~~About what? Not wanting children to die?~~

~~Let me guess - she’s woke too, right?~~

Ok; based doesn’t mean what I thought it did so I refund my comment.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

lol people do sometimes use it to say “has shitty takes” so I get it.

[–] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Who is forcing you to watch Ms. Rachel videos? Blink twice if you need to be rescued! /s

that's how you know she actually cares about children and not money

[–] SarahValentine@pawb.social 41 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I keep hearing about a Ms. Rachel but I have no idea who that is.

edit: Thanks for the info everyone! :3

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 51 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Typically prior to her activism, only parents of toddlers know her (like me lol). She's one of the few well educated toddler influencers on YouTube, too, with a master's degree.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

Our parents had sesame Street.

We had tellytubbies

Our kids have ms rachel.

If you think about it, this isnt all that dissimilar to getting slagged off by elmo

[–] RobertoOberto@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

slagged off

Sounds like a British euphemism for blowjobs.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 19 hours ago

Believe it or not but that's "gobbing off"
