"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Remember two months ago when they tried to say "UHH THIS IS ALL CHINA PSYOPS!"

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/china-undermining-us-by-fueling-anti-ai-data-center-protests-lawmakers-claim-in-chilling-warning/ar-AA24QFsu

yeah get fucked, people on both sides of the aisle hate this shit and don't want it built anywhere near them. they don't want rate hikes on power and water to subsidize grok undressing children. they don't want methane burning shitshows either. and now flock is tracking everything everywhere, and your local tech-chud is recording everyone with perv-glasses - with facial ID and tracking right around the corner from meta / anduril / palintir / hitlersatan

people are starting to wake up. that's a start.

The issue that unites every American. Clanker factories are an abomination.

When enough NIMBYs everywhere cooperate it becomes NIABY (not in anyone's back yard). Solidarity and unity can achieve wonderful things.

[–] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 days ago

I’ll believe it when I see it. Thus far, they’re steamrolling.

[–] spacegoat@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

The only thing you can rely on Americans for is to roll over and lick the boot

Direct action says "no" quite clearly.

What the fuck did people think "the information economy" in "the information age" was going look like??? Where the fuck do people think "the cloud" is???

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 36 points 2 days ago

AI companies really shot themselves in the foot with their scare marketing and then talking about covering the planet in datacentres - they’re the physical manifestation of AI, so no wonder they’re being opposed. And then when they do build them, they’re steamrollered past environmental restrictions and make front page news for their noise and pollution.

Nobody likes the cloud. It is and always was obviously a scheme to control all of your data, and eventually steal all of its value.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 5 points 2 days ago

This has mostly nothing to do with the cloud though. There is plenty of capacity from existing data centres for cloud computing. The US already has over 3000 data centers. The planned 4000 (!) extra data centers are all for the AI bubble.

Most of those 4000 will luckily never be build, because that is part of the scam. However the existing ones are still a huge problem for carbon emission and climate change.

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

These data centers are for GenAI only. A warehouse full of tens of thousands of NVidia GPUs is completely unnecessary for anything but LLM bullshit and blockchain bullshit. The data centers that run actually useful things like S3 or your favorite MMORPG's servers don't consume multiple gigawatts of power and raise the temperature in the surrounding area by 4 degrees Fahrenheit.

TRUMP: I'm ending democracy, rounding people up in vans, becoming fascist, destroying all our alliances, and have filled the white house with pedophiles.

AMERICANS: Okay, daddy!

[–] FoxAlive@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There's a trump civil war right now and majority of trumpers are turning against him.

The grifters who helped create him like Alex Jones and Candace Owens are turning against him and its melting their brains.

Some of them are going straight to blue-anon. Charlie kirk was shot by isreal kind of stuff, which I love that for them.

My father is one of the few holdouts. My sagnificant other will tell me when she sees my father arguing against a growing number of ex-supporters on Facebook.

And yet he stays in office running the country

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

Because the people empowered and charged to remove him have forsaken their democratic duty

[–] FoxAlive@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Potentially for a third. When you get enough money you just buy new rules.

I think they're trying to move to Europe.

They already kind of have information control there and can arrest people for having wrong think. Which is what we are trying to do here in the united States, we just are more adverse to it.

Elon and the other epstine class are getting more involved there, and there seems to be a lot of money in European influencers now to push a lot of their narratives. More and more I keep finding YouTube channels of Brits who only make videos on how much better America and the culture is. Or its just straight up right wing propaganda.

Its worth noting many of the YouTube channels you watch and enjoyed have been bought out in the past 6 years, and I think the information machine is finally catching up and understands it needs to own podcasters ans youtubers now that traditional media is dead.

Primarily that Palestine isnt real, and that "invaders" are taking over their country. Obviously the solution is going to be Ai survalience and forcing everyone to link their I'D to social media.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's because they control the US that they're branching out not because the people that only protest a few hours on weekends are too defiant.

[–] FoxAlive@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I feel like you made this comment due to some kind of national identity you have with Europe and took offence at whatever I said.

You down voted me, ignored the crux of my point and then made a jab at American protesting.

Look man believe whatever you want, I just want less data centers every where. I don't think elon musk should be influencing the lowest common denominator with natzi rhetoric anywhere. Especially when they use it to try to push data centers and mass survalience.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The move to influence Europe predates the flock/AI push.

If I had down voted your comment then it was a scrolling mistake.

The jab at American protesting if you can call it that was just that it's not related to the push of Europe.

[–] FoxAlive@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was saying I see a shift in a ai push from the US to Europe more and more.

And I think your conditions make it more ideal now due to how much successful push back we are having with data centers in the united States.

We can't arrest people on the street for merely having a pro palastine opinion. That power over speech makes it much more desirable as apposed to here people are bringing gulotines to protests with no consequences. If anything they're getting praise from their communities.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Guillotines are a French symbol so you'll see it.

The US does arbitrarily arrest people for things they say.

Palestinian supporters are a minority, that's why they get away with it. Not many people care about it and just wish they'd stop protesting.

[–] NathanRanch@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Do people really think we're gonna stop this? Like we'll stop Flock cameras?

Yes. Although the datacenters will likely kill themselves when the bubble pops. Still good to fight just the same and keep the pressure on. These loons will still have access to massive amounts of water and power even when the datacenters fail.

We kinda did stop flock. There is a new spycam company named axios but flock is deffo on its way out.

You probably mean Axon, and they are far older, they created the Taser.
