This level of celebrity worship is so bizarre.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Planets : "Do NOT approach Earth, there's nothing we can do for them."

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 14 points 4 days ago (3 children)

You kidding me? They have scopes on us 24/7, we are their equivalent of the Twilight Zone, whole galaxy watches and laughs at our stupidity.

[–] TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id 4 points 4 days ago

The galactic equivalent of 'Ow, my balls'.

They're watching us about to do something stupid.

[–] BillCheddar@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

That would make UFOs their equivalent to our Scientology Speedrunning challenge?

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 41 points 4 days ago (1 children)

People worshiping the rich and famous are responsible for a lot of the problems in the world today.

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

More or less than the rich and famous themselves?

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

Both in different ways, the masses give them a pass for bad behavior, and also vote for the populists.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 39 points 5 days ago (2 children)

If it incentivizes people to clean up, I don't hate it as much as I did at first glance. Just won't think too hard about the shipping and other additional waste production involved.

[–] PhobosAnomaly@feddit.uk 12 points 5 days ago

Yeah fair play. Mad respect to the domestic and waste workers making the place looks half decent for everyone... but I can't really hate on a guy for tidying shit into bags and selling them to people with more money than sense.

If it makes that corner of the world look a bit nicer for humans and animals alike... I can't hate on it.

lmao one person's trash 😂

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 28 points 4 days ago

I guess it would be pretty easy to say that Swift fans have been paying for garbage for years but to each their own :P

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 27 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Come on people we jumped the shark on this with gamer girl bathwater a while ago

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 10 points 4 days ago

The real lesson is it was never about the gamers. Weirdos from every walk of life will buy this shit up.

It's too bad she's a billionaire POS. If there's one person that could trigger the revolution, it might be her. She just has to say the word. These people would follow.

[–] LastYearsIrritant@sopuli.xyz 17 points 4 days ago (1 children)

She couldn't get Harris elected, I don't think she has the draw you think she does.

[–] IEatDaFeesh@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

She didn't push hard enough. Her support was "y'all should go out and vote." That statement only indirectly helped Harris because her fans are probably more left leaning.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Maybe she doesn't really care and is actually benefiting from Trump. Maybe she only put in the bare minimum of effort for appearances as a PR move and didn't really want Harris to win. Maybe I would be willing to have given her the benefit of the doubt if we didn't have to shame her into reducing her private jet usage.

[–] somegeek@programming.dev 4 points 3 days ago

You wouldn't want a revolution lead by idiots.

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What's the word? Maybe we can trick her into saying it.

Jesus, people are so desperate for celebrity validation they're actually buying their goddamn rubbish now? What next, someone's gonna auction off Bieber's used condoms?

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

That would literally go for a million dollars :/

Lemmy is nuts. You see the same memes you saw in high school even though highschool was two decades ago.

I never really cared enough to look beyond the marketing for Taylor Swift, so my opinion was pretty much "Whatever, she seems nice enough", but having a wedding in MSG at all is seriously off-putting.

That's not an invitation to list everything bad about her. I still don't care.

Is this like baseball cards, and one of the cubes is like an autographed T&T Wedding Night condom or whatever?

[–] DarkDecay@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Just imagine even telling anyone you knew you bought literal garbage. The shame

[–] Miller@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

A market for any old celebrity garbage, who could have imagined.

Ruling class be like:

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 3 points 4 days ago

People, or person?

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 6 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Honestly, $25 feels kinda low. Each bag could contain stuff that is worth much more, even minus the celebrity bonus.

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'd agree, but the bags weren't what was sold - it was a plastic cube with something like a cubic inch of trash inside. There's a pic elsewhere in the thread.

I saw it. $25 for that? Un-fucking-believable. Like selling off the Berlin wall bit by bit, except that really was a piece of history.

[–] HAL_9_TRILLION@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Man I hate to have to agree with this because it's just so loathsome, but weddings always have like personalized tchotchkes on the table and shit and if you manage to snag one of those in your $25 bag you'd probably get a thousand dollars for it on ebay.

But "from the edge of a love story" is odd wording. I really would think such bigtime celebrities would see to it that their trash was removed themselves for exactly this reason and that this isn't just random garbage from nearby dumpsters.
