I personally use it to make art for my FOSS game I make as a hobby.

There's also the other case where you start a comm on a smaller instance, and then later on someone starts the same comm on l.w. and gets by default more activity >_<

Absolutely. It's just that redditors are used to the existing order and want to see it replicated in lemmy immediately, jumping over the underlying steps of community growing.

Unintentionally, but yes :D

The biggest tragedy of modern media is that they chose to cast Elon Musk as the real life Tony Stark instead of torvalds who created 2 pieces of truly revolutionary software (with the help of thousands of other engineers ofc)

"it's a big club, and you ain't in it"

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The droves of instances that choose to function as clubs with application process aren't doing it that way because it's the only way, they're doing it because they want to or don't understand how to set up automoderation tools.

Pray tell, what experience do you have hosting lemmy instances or even social media websites to speak with such authority?

People don't have to be worried they won't be rejected if all they want to do is look at memes, upvote, and laugh

People can get banned for the wrong types of memes and for bad voting patterns in lemmy

This reminds me of German socialists and communists thinking "after Hitler, our turn"

Sadly way too many admins and developers are content to ignore this problem, until it's too much to ignore. And at that point, the solutions need to already exist. More specifically I wish more admins would actively curate the fediseer and help with improving its automation toolset. Sadly it's still just me.

I think something like this will become more necessary as spam becomes a larger problem. This is why I started the fediseer in the first place. The fediverse/apub model is very prone to abuse by spammers who exploit its open nature. The point of using the fediseer already now, is that when the problem becomes impossible to ignore, we already have a service set to combat it populated with the relevant info.

Relevant as well

Was very excited to get this expansion as it added some elegant additions to the well-crafted formula. I managed to play 3 games since Friday with it (3pl) and the experience solidified my view on it and its place as one of my favorite board games.

Pic is from the first game we played.

The Sardaukar Commanders add a much needed early tempo option for Solari. Normally you don't really have anything to do with Solari in the early term, as it's usually not worth spending it for 1 water when you could be saving it for a council position or a swordmaster. However now with the Sardaukar in play in some easy to reach positions, it gives players an incentive to spend their early money to quickly grab one of them before they're all snatched away.

Likewise in the late game, once you have your council seat and swordmaster, Solari didn't have that much impact outside the occasional conflict or card. Now if you have a few Sardaukar in your employ, they give a significant power to your combat efforts by quickly translating your spare change into extra reinforcements, plus some good abilities. I really like the difficult decisions this opens.

Likewise Technologies give more versatility to spice. Without them, someone who didn't have a lot of access to the influence side of the board, didn't have a ton of options for using spice, other than going to the guild now and then. The Ix tech now allows someone who didn't get access to a lot of influence cards, or who doesn't care about combat as much, to use green cards to utilize their spare spice as well. I am always up for giving more options to the players. The tech effects can also be quite powerful when paired with the right leaders. I won my second game handily by making a tech-intrigue combo and just spamming troops out constantly through it.

Finally the new leaders are all quite nice, and I like the more unique directions they took with some of them like the Guild Navigator.

Ultimately, very very happy with this addition, even if some of my playing mates were more muted in their appraisal.

Hey peeps, do you have some lemmy instances that you think are cool? We maintain an endorsement list on the fediseer which has gotten a bit stale lately so I think it would be cool to endorse some of the new instances popping up to help raise awareness about their existence and reward admins doing a good job.

I thought I'd just add some myself, but why take all the responsibility myself when we can crowdsource it? pirate captain hugging a treasure chest

So if you have any fediverse instances (not just lemmy!) you think our instance should be endorsing, please do mention them here, along with the reasons why (see the other examples in our endorsements).
