If you are here asking: "Is this a science meme?"

Probably, yes. We use the Dawkins definition of meme: a replicating idea, not just an image macro with a fact on it. A good post here doesn't need to teach you something. It needs to make you ask something: who, what, where, when, and especially why or how.

Science isn't a filing cabinet of facts, it's a conversation. For example, a photo of an eel or other localized wildlife counts because most people never see one, and wonder is the first step of inquiry. A car meme counts if it makes you curious about what's under the bonnet. If you want to talk about something you noticed in the world, chances are someone else wants to talk about it too.

We moderate for vibe, not category. Pruning is light, especially where a post creates interesting discussion. Experimenting is encouraged.

See the pinned paper on Shitposting as Public Pedagogy if you want the academic case for why this works.

this should have pictures of the shit, not of the bat...

I saw it at Bracken cave, they had a jar with it. I wouldn’t say it’s super sparkly, more like it has a cool sheen to it. Like dark eyeshadow with some glow or something.

Ay high quality bat poop picture. Perfect addition to lemmy.world admin HDD. Do you have other angles?

Bats also have explosive poop. The crystals in bat poop make for great fireworks and gunpowder

True story! In Bracken cave with millions of bats, they used to mine for guano to supply the confederacy with gunpowder. Got to see it last summer.

I, too, have seen Doctor Stone

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I haven't. Should give it a watch I guess.

if your need more convincing and don't mind mild spoilers,The ability to make gunpowder from bat poo is recognised as dangerous by the antagonist, so he tries to keep the protagonist (who knows how to make guns) away from access to bat poo. The protagonist exploits this to gain the upper hand. Because there are military technologies far more dangerous than guns that he knows how to create, and misleading his enemy can only help.

Thanks. It's on my queue now.

I found the bat facts when I was looking up the history of fireworks.
