Or if the current R leadership becomes irrelevant, the Dems win for many terms in a row, and the new generation of Rs decide to appeal to the left by doing another party swap

The end? No, no, no. The point where the state is abolished is the beginning. We don't pack up and go home after we abolish the state. We live in the world we created. Everything before the state is abolished is preamble.

I'm not a guy. You've really got no idea what's going on here.

I'd know that I don't know how trans people feel, and therefore I can't know how I'd feel if I were trans. I'd listen to how trans people feel, and assume that's how I'd feel if I were trans.

If I were a cis guy, I wouldn't start online arguments about how I think I'd feel if I were trans

Maybe if you don't want to be judged for your views on trans people's feelings, you could not tell everyone what you think trans people feel.

There is no functional reason to have a toilet connect to an outside server

So that all the toilets you poop in can share data on your poops and get a complete picture of your bowel health.

I think arguing about medical techniques is boring, so let's talk about empathy. You said you wouldn't get the surgery if you were so inclined. I don't think you've bothered to understand what being so inclined means. I don't think you've considered being so triggered by a part of your body that you'd rather die than keep it. That's what the situation is for a lot of trans people. I don't think you've thought about that. I think you've imagined transition as a nice-to-have, instead of lifesaving medical care. You should do more to understand the feelings of trans people who seek surgery.

The regret rate is 1%. In the context of major surgery, that's a miracle. You don't get that for hip replacements or heart transplants.

I've seen a lot of instances of people on Lemmy saying you can get banned from Blahaj for forgetting someone's pronouns. And then Ada has to come in and explain why they're wrong in their interpretation of the rules. These people were banned for good reasons, they're transphobes. But I think they misunderstand the rules of Blahaj for a legitimate reason.

It's because Blahaj doesn't have rules. It has two guidelines. Very subjective ones. People want to know what will get them banned, so they try to understand the rules of that subjectivity. The rules for what Ada considers to be empathy and inclusion. The rules of Ada's psychology. Because like it or not, with highly subjective guidelines, Ada's interpretation and understanding of that subjectivity is the rules.

And Ada didn't write the rules of her psychology in the sidebar. So people have to speculate. And people are speculating wrong, and starting arguments about it.

I think a ruleset should be a transparent explanation of how a mod team thinks about acceptable behaviour. By not having rules, Blahaj is being opaque about how the mod team thinks. And the only way for people to deal with that is to practice amateur psychoanalysis. Which is unpleasant and creates division.

If people understood how trans people think about acceptable behaviour, they wouldn't be transphobes. So the result of this system is that everyone who is banned for transphobia doesn't understand why and needs it personally explained to them. If the sidebar explained acceptable behaviour in a way everyone can understand, they wouldn't misunderstand it so often.

I think the current system is creating pointless drama.

Matrix user of almost a decade here. A PluralKit-like project actually does exist, a friend/ former partner of Ours developed it.

They are no longer on Matrix, and We wish We could follow suit. Do not use Matrix, it is absolutely not a safe space for marginalized folks by any stretch of imagination.

We know this because We were the defacto head of the last public safe space that was left standing, a feat only accomplished by terribly dedicated helpers (mods) and programmers who would make custom tooling for that community. It wasn't enough.

See, not only is Nev Vector Inc. very corporate oriented, they're actively hostile to community contributions. You can loudly yell about flaws that are easy to abuse, or make full code submissions of things that have been hotly requested for years, and it will be entirely ignored, if it doesn't directly align with their corporate interests.

Right now most of those who remained are scattered in a new community that's bridged between Discard, which at least does something to prevent the worst cases of abuse, and Revolt, which is still a pretty basic project feature set wise, compared to Matrix and Discard, but you can tell that it's made with actual care, it's also EU based.

Yeah, this lines up with what we've heard from a number of other people, sadly... that Matrix has been more interested in pandering to cops, governments, and corporations rather than building safe and respectful tech for everyday people. And that yes, you could self-host, but that it's a nightmare that they have no intent of making easier because it would conflict with their managed hosting services. Not to mention ongoing issues with metadata and loopholes that can be used for abuse. Unfortunate.

Yeah, bees are controversial, but let's talk about the vegans who actually eat meat

Aboriginal Australians have been hunting kangaroos for 60,000 years, and the kangaroos have adapted. Modern kangaroos tend to overpopulate and overgraze, destroying grasslands that are used as crucial habitats for threatened indigenous species. Kangaroos need to be culled to protect the environment.

All kangaroo meat comes from wild kangaroos. Hunting quotas are managed by the government based on aerial population surveys. When hunting quotas aren't met, the remaining kangaroos have to be culled, and their meat rots in ditches and mass graves instead of being eaten.

Come on vegans, let's get toxic. I wanna see some pro-kangatarian vegans being called murderers over this.

What makes this worse is the obvious disrespect from Cowbee of my request to disengage. I made it very clear I didn't want to argue. These communities have absolutely no standards of behaviour for members of the in-group. Which is exactly why I don't engage with them in these communities.

Well, also the fact that I hate being constantly called a liberal for not repeating Capitalist Putin's latest botfarm talking point. Talking to these people is an exercise in keeping my calm while I am constantly insulted. No thank you.
