Gotcha, I guess I enjoy that a bit. They have a rainbow chest mode. Have you tried that?

Each floor gives you one chest in the starting room and when you opened it, you can choose 1 of 12 items and is guaranteed to be a great item.

I don’t really understand. Can you elaborate?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 14 hours ago

Yeah I love the first one. Also have hundreds of hours on it. I think the only things I’ve not unlocked are from the secret boss fight that is different from the others.

Exit was pretty terrible. It felt like a gimmicky cash grab.

I loved the first game and I’m so excited for the second one. I’ll pick this up on day one.

If you haven’t played the first one, please check it out, I’m sure it’s super cheap at this point.

Haha! I just showed my wife the headline and picture and said a similar thing.

That’s a pain, I just use the second computer for the one app as I need to be at my desk to use it anyway. My laptop is Linux as I do everything else on it.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago (7 children)

I use linux for everything except for one critical app that does not yet work on linux outside of a virtual machine. But, my computer is not powerful enough to run it in a virtual machine.

There are also no alternatives to it either. So, I have a second computer to use windows for just that, but the day it works on linux is the day I say bye to windows forever.

I completely agree, I can’t even think of any games from this gen that were must play games that didn’t also come out on pc.

I think all gaming is heading towards pc at this point.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

Thanks! I did give it a try with my current team and I was surprised how easy it was to take down pikachu.

What really got me was his espeon. I am pretty weak towards psychic types.

I probably could get something strong against it, but then I’d have to grind for a bit to get it down.

I’m guessing my kedabra could take care of snorlax and my gyrados or amoharos could take down his charizard

Thanks for the heads up!

I think it might be too difficult to do that though as I’ll have to coordinate which episodes of sg1 to watch and wait for my wife to catch up on atlantis 😂

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Thanks! My wife and I will watch Atlantis together one I finish sg1. She is a trekkie and is vaguely interested and when we saw mamoa was in it, I think she was sold.

About 3 years ago, I watched the stargate movie and really loved it. I immediately tried to watch sg1 but had a really hard time due to the characters being recast with actors who are significantly different than their movie counterparts.

Well, I guess enough time has passed and I got through the first 3ish episodes and have been hooked since then.

I just started season 2 this afternoon.

Please no spoilers.

I assumed it was less of an after thought and more of a, we are running out of space thing.

Is still amazing that they put the most of the region in there.

I’m at the point where I am only interested in handheld gaming.

The only reason I’d buy a dedicated gpu these days is to run AI stuff locally.

I’ve been replaying Gold on my game it color. I just beat the elite 4 and started going through the Kano gyms.

The elite 4 battles, were tough and it was really close. I genuinely was feeling the tension as I landed my last few hits.

The Kanto gyms seem really easy so far. Much easier than the elite 4, so that’s a bit disappointing.

I did decide against fighting red after getting the badges. I estimate my team will be around level 50 when I finish getting the ka to badges and I do not want to grind 20 levels to match red’s level.

After this, I’m going to play emerald, which I’ll emulate on my 3ds. I’m really looking forward to it as it seems like a huge technological leap compared to red > gold.

I played these games as a kid, but only have good memories of red, I had 0 memory of gold, and I have 0 memories of emerald. I never played the platinum generation so I’m extremely excited for that one.

Based on this site, it looks like there are just 15 games.

I only ask, because that console is selling used where I live for about 200-300, but the 3dsxl is only about 100 if you find a good deal usually around 120.

I planned to get a dsi and emulate gba games, but it seems that the emulation is not too great. I see it’s even worse on the ds lite.

If I use a gba flash cart in the ds lite, should I have full compatibility?

Additionally, how does screen quality between the 2 compare? I don’t care much about the size, but overall picture quality.

Thanks in advance!

I grew up with Pokémon red and gold. In those games, you can kind of just ignore the story and play through the game.

At some point Pokémon seemed to switch, and have so much more dialog forced upon you, especially in the early game.

When did this start? Was it with Pokémon X and Y or did it come later? I know Sun and Moon felt that way to me.

I got my old game boys and have been playing pokemon gold on the gameboy color. I also have red and blue.

But, I want to play through the rest of them on original hardware up until the switch. I plan to use flash carts or some kind of mods to play the games as they are quite expensive.

Please let me know if there are any flaws in my plan.

Gameboy Advance SP (I like this as it’s backlit and will let me play my other gameboy games)

  • Pokemon Emerald

New 3dsxl/2dsxl

  • the rest of the games I’d like to play them all using flash carts or software mods. Since these games are not as old I’ll buy the original if they are under $100

Is it as simple as picking up these two consoles to play all the pre-switch pokemon games? Is there a better non-emulation option?

I found my old gameboy color, and I started playing Pokémon gold on it.

The thing is, the screen sucks. I see there are backlight mods and wanted to know if anyone has experience with this.

I’m not sure if all the displays made for the gameboy color have the same resolution.

I can only buy kits directly from China where I live, but the resolutions are not listed. I’m worried it’s going to distort the original image.

Hey, I’m a huge Star Trek fan and have seen all of that stuff endlessly.

I love the Star Trek community, and it seems Doctor who has a similar thing.

So, I want to check out this show. Can someone recommend a good place to start?

Can I just pick a series based on the actor? I was considering the series with Matt Smith. Just because I saw a few clips with him.

I grew up playing Final Fantasy VII. I probably played it around 10-12 years old and again on ios a few years ago.

WOW! What a classic.

I decided to play the remake on my Steam Deck just ot revisit the game and see areas of the game reimagined.

They did a great job in this aspect, but overall I feel that the game has not been fun.

So far, it is just walking from place to place while having the occasional battle. 99% of the time you can mindlessly mash a button to find the battle.

The few boss battles that come up can be interesting and this is where you start to learn the mechanics as they are not needed up until this point.

But, there are many sections that are long for the sake of being long. Like making you walk slowly in certain situations, like walking up to 7th Heaven, or making you hold a button to interact with something when 99% of things just require you to press the button once.

My biggest disappointment in the game is that the gear I unlocked and leveled up, do not carry over to the next game. Once I learned this, I stopped caring. They really should have let you bring over your characters.

Anyway, I am near the end game now and will probably finish it since there is not much left, but I will not be playing other iterations of this game. I might just watch a speed-run or a "let's play" to see the different areas.

I played oot using Ship of Harkinian to play a randomized version of this game after seeing it run at GDQ. I did use easier randomizer settings than the runner did, but I just completed my first run of it.

I did need to use the log 4 times to lookup where an item was.

The first one was to find the letter to give to king zora. It was behind a waterfall in the gerudo valley.

After this, I used it to find the megaton hammer. It was in the grotto right in front of the entrace to the goron city. I was a little annoyed as I knew about this grotto and didn't check it before since I got the song of storms late in the game.

I found the longshot by beating dampe in under 1 minute or actually 1 minute on the dot. I also got the light arrows from speaking to the chicken girl as an adult.

I felt pretty good about this as 3/4 hints I needed were to find items in places that i did not know that you could find items.

I'm not a zelda expert and only played through this game casually before. So if you like this game, i'd recommend giving the randomizer a try. It breathed new life into the game.

I have already seen everything Trek some more than once already. I always get a bit sad on the last few episodes of a series. I am going to miss the characters and seeing them continue to grow and interact with each other.

The same thing happened when I finished my rewatch of DS9. I think it hit my harder with DS9 since that those characters had such a good chemistry with each other.

Once I finish Voyagers I plan to start watching TNG right away. I havn't done a complete watch through of it for many years. I usually get the first 2 or 3 seasons before getting distracted. I have been looking forward to watching it again.
