Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I mean, if they have swords, attacking all at once is a good way to slice your own team. Trading off on lunging in to strike is honestly not a terrible strategy, the solo guy will get tired faster, and then they can descend upon him while he's winded.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But only one has a sword??? Surely you have the others hold him down and have sword guy go in for one assured Stab.

Dude jerks to the left last minute and your buddy loses a finger

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago (3 children)

This is one of the subclauses of Mook Chivalry.

Note also the closely related Law of Conservation of Ninjutsu.

⚠️ WARNING: TVTROPES LINK ⚠️

Entering tvtropes places you at an extremely high risk of losing the rest of the day and most of the night.

I would love to join in, but they have an ad blocker blocker.

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Use an adblocking dns. Helps with ads everywhere else that you don't have an adblocker running.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Weird, I'm running both unlock origin and dns adguard and the site loads fine for me.

Dr. Mcninja was at the forefront of researching those laws.

[–] gibmiser@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Damn, forgot about the good doctor. Need to dig out my printed edition.

[–] 5765313496@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yesss... I just assumed it was the Ask A Ninja guy.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

gotta put CWs on those tvtropes links, or unwitting passers-by could get trapped for hours

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But what if stuffing people face first down the rabbit hole is all part of my master plan, hmm?

[–] lime@feddit.nu 2 points 1 day ago

then you are a bastard and a charlatan

[–] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Done.. I swear I posted that before reading your comment, lol

[–] lime@feddit.nu 2 points 1 day ago

idk it might be too small

I wonder what would actually happen is we reproduced fights like that. Of course the group has a great advantage, but realistically, if like more than 3 people attack at the same time, they might end up hitting each other, so it's not absurd for some to hesitate. There's also our group behavior that makes us behave weird when in groups. I also remember a video with a group of people fighting against one guy where people joked about this, because it was almost one at a time

I did aikido for a bit in college and one of the things we practiced was sparring multiple opponents. Once you're against more than 3 people, they're really getting in each other's way, and if you're clever you can use their numbers against them.

I mean it works in football 🀷

I just want a realistic ninja movie where they all scatter in different directions and disguise themselves as peasants and artisans. One tries to kill him in his sleep. One tries to stab him in the anonymity of a crowded marketplace. Another tries to poison him at a tea house. One tries a concealed crossbow in an alley. Yet another spends decades learning to be a great artist and is commissioned to paint the hero.

[–] BruhWaitWut@lemmy.zip 3 points 22 hours ago

Brilliant. And a suspicious number of them could have experience working backstage in a theatre.

Wife gets pregnant, hero is there when the baby is born

Baby tries to garrote the hero with its own umbilical cord

Sounds like the Lone Wolf & Cub manga. There was at least one movie adaptation but I don't remember how true to the original it was.

Wish I hadn't looked this up and found out it's nearly 20 years old. 😭

take a moment. recognize that each one of those frames in the animation were painstakingly hand developed in Adobe Flash, one of the worst animation studios in world history.

nobody, and I mean nobody, deserves to be subjected to flash key animation.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

I'm so old I've never even seen this on YouTube

[–] probable_possum@leminal.space 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

There are not so many fighting scenes worth the effort. I can think of just a few. Kill Bill had a few good ones, including the one where she fights a coffin. :)

And there is Oldboy (... *Bing*)

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Crazy 8s fight in Kill Bill wasn't too bad. She was constantly seeking to get in a better position to fight them one at a time.

[–] probable_possum@leminal.space 2 points 22 hours ago

Right, I liked that one, too. Interestingly the O-Ren garden scene impressed me more, I think it pushes different emotional buttons than the let's wreck a tea house/ nightclub scene.

Just like we practised, teleport around at random and take up the whole frame when on camera.

There's a rhythm game called Kickbeat from a dozen years ago that runs on this classic trope.

The hordes of enemy henchmen just circle around you in a very orderly manner so you can read the pattern and kung-fu your way through them one or two at a time.

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago

One Finger Death Punch does the opposite. You really have to deal with 100MPM (mooks per minute) coming from both sides and throwing shit at you. Fun little arcade game

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

Remember to glow red if you're gonna hit hard, and yellow if you're just going for a little tap.

I wouldn't describe Raid Redemption as one at a time.
