I had a colleague who went into a diabetic shock at work. Passed out, due to other related things, his retina disconnected. They had him back in two weeks, and framed him for stealing cash from the register rather than cover the treatment to recover. Gotta love corporate America.

Had another buddy, and three others conveniently murdered the night before a Lyft Union contract was up for negotiation in my home city. Needless to say, negotiations were conveniently cancelled, and the union disbanded in following days, suddenly lacking four of the main officers.

Just saying, if you think you're costing the corporations too much, none of us are, and they'll pay to make sure you don't.

This is conservatism. Conservatives (including neo-liberals) serve the billionaire class. Conservatives have ALWAYS been the foot-soldiers of the wealthy.

It is conservatives who despise unions and conservatives who violently attack and murder union members for the rich during strikes. It is conservatives who allow the rich to be immune to laws and taxes.

Conservatives are doing this to us. They cannot stop on their own. We must physically, forcibly, violently help them stop. If we do not, they will kill us all.

The boss cannot be defeated until his foot-soldiers are dead.

The american dream is a nightmare.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

American here, this isn't even remotely the saddest story I've heard. In fact, it's a pretty happy one.

I'm not joking.

Gets to recover in an office instead of a manufacturing line or coal mine, with 3 weeks off first? Guys got it better than half the people.

Lhand ov the Fee!

[–] Thor_Whale@lemmus.org 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The American safety net is in israel right now. These guys just don't fucking care about us. We are strategic human capital and we don't matter. And these people claim they're 'godly' . Imagine if they were satanist

Imagine if they were Satanist

We'd be a hell of a lot better off, considering levelheadedness and rationalism are central tenets of Satanism

This is just slavery. Fuck the USA. What a nightmare to live in

[–] Frostible@piefed.social 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

had a close friend try to defend 6 sick days a year as "generous"

lmao.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

What is wrong with some people? Was he never sick? Does he not know sickness is a real thing? Jeez.

[–] Frostible@piefed.social 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

unfortunately i see it way too often in this country, eventually you get deep enough to become unable to reject the absurdity, as it would mean acknowledging your own status as a slave

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago

Makes sense. Cognitive dissonance. Hard to blame as noone really wants to admit he's basically just a slave with no option.

Although there is an option. Emigration. Be abetted treated slave elsewhere. But that probably also won't come to mind if you're already adamant you're in the greatest nation already 😑

The Republican plan for us all.

[–] 2piradians@lemmy.world 86 points 2 days ago (6 children)

Long- and short-term disability need regulation. Companies cut funding to their own employees at times when it hurts the most while also throwing them to the health insurance vultures.

It sends the message fuck you, find your own way or die.

This sums up capitalism, i.e. for-profit institution in general.

Has the frog been boiled yet?

[–] modus@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

It's been liquified and is no longer recognized as such.

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

This man has likely been a part of the work force for almost SIXTY YEARS.

still not enough

[–] raven55six@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's happening pretty much everywhere in the corporate.

[–] JellyManJellyArms@feddit.dk 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Heart attacks or people cannot afford to retire?

[–] raven55six@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

People not being able to retire, even not able to survive on the income they get. Heart attack is a consequence of lifestyle that people have to live these days. Many people simply don't feel enough, that sense of not being enough and being replaceable often leads to a decline in mental and physical health.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It was international news when China proposed raising it's maximum retirement age to 63.

I was told that this proved only Capitalism could guarantee a good retirement.

[–] blujan@sopuli.xyz 1 points 23 hours ago

They meant having capital

No vitals for 10 minutes doesn't make sense

  1. Anyone without vitals for 10 minutes would he dead

  2. They should have still had vitals with a heart attack

[–] Vex_Detrause@lemmy.ca 41 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

If CPR is keeping your blood flowing for 10 mins then you don't have vitals. CPR stops when your vitals comes back or when they pronounce you are dead-dead.

[–] ricecake@sh.itjust.works 22 points 1 day ago (8 children)

That's not the case.

  1. people round numbers. In a casual setting 8 minutes and 10 minutes are the same.
  2. 10 minutes without detectable vital signs is survivable, albeit extremely serious.
  3. If you have sudden cardiac arrest and get CPR from a random bystander you have a 20% chance of surviving to leave the hospital. The sooner a defibrillator can restart the heart the better.
  4. I'm not sure why you say they should have still had vitals with a heart attack. Most heart attacks don't leave you with none, but it's not all by any means. Lack of blood flow to the heart can easily cause it to stop beating.

Ultimately though, the part that matters is that the part you found implausible was the medical details, not that someone would go back to work shortly after a severe emergency while still concerned about their own sudden death because they can't afford to recover.

You don't ask for favors when your life is through

You've got a right to what's coming to you

Your boss gets a pension when he is too old

You helped him retire, you're out in the cold

Too old to work, too old to work

When you're too old to work and you're too young to die

Who will take care of you, how'll you get by

Whеn you're too old to work and you're too young to die?

Too old to work
