Trump wants to relabel New Mexico as New America days after changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake Ameria

Donald Trump has already changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, and now he’s targeting a US state for a rebrand.

Trump is spending the holiday weekend dreaming up his next demand to relabel America’s geography. He posted a map on Truth Social Sunday afternoon of New Mexico, but the word Mexico was crossed out and replaced with America.

Relabeling the southwestern state on the U.S.-Mexico border as New America is reminiscent of an executive order he signed early in his second term, in which he changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Oh and how about the gas prices soaring due to shortages, because he fucked up in Iran when thinking that would be another distraction?

[–] Leviathan@fedinsfw.app 19 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Just to be clear, he hasn't renamed shit. No one is actually gonna follow these bullshit renames after he's dead or out of office. People in every other country and half of your own won't and anyone who does is gonna be a laughing stock. Fucking moronic shit the media spends time legitimizing.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 19 minutes ago

Im going to continute to deadname the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, all my trans homies are doing it.

[–] FrChazzz@lemmus.org 20 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

He is the dog that finally caught the car. He never knew why he chased it, just that there was a need within him to chase it. And because he expended so much effort into chasing the car he now needs to demonstrate to all the other dogs that he totally knew what he was doing the whole time and even more totally knows what a car is and what to do with it.

This is why he doesn't actually do anything truly "presidential." His idea of being president is the same as when my kid was 8 and said "if I'm ever president, I'm gonna..." and then some cute but completely totalitarian nonsense comes out their mouth. Just as he's the poor man's idea of a rich man, he's a child's idea of the president.

And the sad part is that there are still people who worships him and in their eyes can do no wrong.

So, if the USA is so great, then why did they make USB?

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 7 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Just want to remind everyone that everything the US ever had is stolen, including the term "America". The whole fucking continent is named America you stupid fuck, who said you can use it for your country? Everyone in North, South and Central America is American.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I will defend the naming of United States of America simply because it was the first country to break away from the European powers, the abbreviation of America was simply inevitable given how it took another generation for the Haitians and Mexicans to break free. Also there was a lot of early ambitions that the US would've been closer to the modern EU and would've expanded far further across the continent. Obviously that didn't and won't happen but yeah.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 hour ago

Haitian where literal slaves who broke free, while the US didn't abolish slavery until 1860s (on paper). Not much lessons of freedom to give here.

And how do you call people who lives on the continent if the US citizens are the real Americans? Nobodys? USA's bitches? Should the Germans be entitled to called themselves European because they did whatever first? Do the Chinese have the rights on Asia because they are the most populous?

This is just more example of US arrogance.

BTW the name comes from the guy mapped south America. Maybe they should be the only Americans.

Oh yeah, US midterms are coming. Finally realised what's driving this guys maniac episode.

If we follow similar logic, Mar-A-Lago should be renamed too because that is Spanish.

Those who accuse someone of having Trump derangement syndrome should be called pedophile defenders.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago

Trump derangement syndrome

Remember, there were conservatives that claim to actually be adults, in office, that advocated for making that a real mental illness, Soviet style.

Meanwhile, I don't think I've ever seen any example of someone with any of this "derangement". It's just people that point out tiny-d donnie's terrible qualities.

I think his obsession with renaming things is so he can have his "legacy" where people a hundred years from now will read in school how the gulf of america used to be called gulf of Mexico until Donald J Trump renamed it.

This way he can do it immediately and without any approvals or permissions from anyone else and it doesn't cost a dime (upfront that he needs permission for, it still costs millions to remake maps and public education posters/billboards and school textbooks and government websites, etc.)

He just doesn't have the foresight to recognize that whatever president comes next will just revert all changes.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (6 children)

He doesn't care. He's trying to tank the US in every way possible so that he and his billionaire friends can buy it up in a fire sale, and create 13-15 tech dominated duchies/kingdoms that own all the people in their borders. That's why they only want a total of 150,000,000 people alive by the end of 2028. They think their robots will be able to control us, not realizing that they don't work, won't work, and we can create portable EMP devices.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 18 hours ago

Also I severely doubt they would be able to maintain jack for shit, id probably give it a five year average before they would lose control for one reason or another not accounting for failed infrastructure and natural disaster. Those that could survive would probably start having issues with viking/ horseman raids along the borders of their territory, think the more raid happy Nomad clans from Cyberpunk. Frankly as a descendent of bandits I'm kinda surprised we haven't seen a proper resurgence yet in places like Idaho and New Mexico.

Any day now he's going to claim credit for naming an element after America even though one already exists (Americium, atomic number 95).

I posted this somewhere last week but it's just as relevant here:

I listened to this podcast recently:

Well, so we know we went and saw him in the middle of the war. I mean, early stages of the war, very intense period of the war, about two weeks and a bit into the war with Iran. And he the thing he first thing he wanted us to see, he was holding up photographs of maple trees. And he's saying, you know, I'm buying these maple trees for the White House. Turns out I'm good at buying trees. And then underneath it were photographs of the ballroom and the columns. He wanted us to know the columns are, I think, bigger than the Supreme Court's columns or more of them or what have you. And one side was inspired by Athens and the other side by Rome. This occupied probably first 15 minutes of our time with him before we got to anything to do with the Iran war.

and earlier ...

It's truly an inordinate amount of his time is spent redecoration, renovation, the ballroom, but also building monuments and naming things after himself. It's become an obsession. And we have a scene in the book, actually, in the Oval Office last October where he he's talking to a couple of visitors about he wants to build essentially a replica of the Arc de Triomphe in Washington, which they call internally the Arc de Trump. You know, he's got different models of it. There's a huge one, a middle one, a small one. You know, he wants it to be bigger than the Lincoln Memorial. Anyway, he's in the room with some of his agents. He says, let's call Emmanuel. Let's call Emmanuel. Ask because he had some questions he wanted to know about the Arc de Triomphe, which presumably he could have just Googled. [...] But instead, he gets Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, on the speakerphone. And he starts asking Emmanuel, you know, does your arch have a viewing platform? Do people jump off it? You know, all this. How big is the arch? You know, all these sort of questions about the arch. So I just there's no way that I can overstate how much time is spent on these matters.

(emphasis added)

That last sentence has really stuck with me.
