Picard's disappearing beard here makes me upset that it's an identifier of ai upcsaling.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago

It has to be upscaling of some sort. That's not the original background from this interaction either.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago

I also dont exactly know what's going on in the background, it looks like someone opened a window or two

I don't even understand the incentive of the upscaling for a meme, and not even a high resolution image...

[–] sqw@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

til now use of "ai upscaling" may commonly refer to whole-cloth image generation

Here. Have a corrected version using the original template.

Any time.

I’ve always liked that Lemmy lets you edit post images.

Nice, I was getting confused by his quick beard change.

I am in favor of AI slop being used for unprofitable endeavors. It accelarates the point at which these companies evaporate, just like their water.

[–] SarahValentine@pawb.social 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

All AI slop endeavors are unprofitable - not just to the individuals or companies making them, but to all life on Earth. It shouldn't be used at all, and should be done away with as soon as possible.

No, AI is profitable for some customers - if you look at things purely on a transactional basis and ignore the environmental costs and blatant copyright infringement.

The only way to force AI companies to go away is for the regulatory bodies to make sure they are paying the full cost of all this, and not freeloading on the rest of us. Then it will cost so much that it will go away entirely, and we will all go back to editing memes in MS Paint, like it oughta be.

I always misheard that lyric as "a hundred men on Mars", I like that version better

[–] sik0fewl@piefed.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I know that’s not right, but I still hear it every time.

[–] RoddyStiggs@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

Why did you make this with AI?

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like a leopress above the Serengeti.

I genuinely thought well into my 20s that "leopress" was a female leopard because of this fucking song.

Who else read this in Patric Stewarts voice?

Alright, nobody upvote anymore

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think that’s the wrong image

[–] minfapper@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Second time that’s happened. I think the piefed web ui has a bug

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

It’s fixed now!
