I work in events. That is a very temporary structure. The frame is aluminum trussing, and although it would hold up fairly well, all of the fabric will start bleaching within 3-4 weeks, the metal chains holding everything up will start rusting pretty quickly being exposed to the elements. The lights themselves aren’t IP rated and are relying on the fabric for protection so those will fail pretty quickly. Finally the stage itself has a wood underlayment that will rot within a single season if left outside.

Lastly it’s all rented and the rental company will continue to charge the client until it’s returned.

It'll be like a toilet in the front yard and he plants flowers in it. White trash is his style.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Ah, but the toilet is gold!

Can't wait to find out that this somehow cost us taxpayers like a hundred million dollars.

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 25 points 2 weeks ago

And the rental company is DefinitelyNotTrumpJr LLC.

[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 37 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They’re expecting trump to pay the rental fee? How quaint.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 32 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not Donald paying. It's those of us who actually pay taxes.

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You just know Trump will try to screw them and pocket the money instead.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago

Knowing Trump, this is run by some friend, family, or donor. Him paying with tax money is pocketing it. That's how you make public wealth private.

[–] herrvogel@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I bet the last point is one of the major reasons why Trump would want it to stay. Guy seems to have a weird fetish for not paying what he owes.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 17 points 2 weeks ago

Probably a power trip, one of the few he gets away with. "Smart men don't pay taxes or bills!"

[–] Furbag@pawb.social 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Lastly it’s all rented and the rental company will continue to charge the client until it’s returned.

That's just another line item for the American taxpayer. Hardly Trump's problem.

I'm calling it now. Some attack will happen at these events. Trump will play the role of "oh no, I've been shot..." and then 2 hours later will brag that he's the healthiest guy the doctors ever saw.

Anybody ever see the movie Groundhog Day?

........no reason.

[–] Dragomus@lemmy.world 29 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It is quite on the nose that they plan/hope to execute another "attack" at one of his events, be it the birthday bash or the 250 celebration.

There is no other solid reason to have these events outdoors.

They need to keep the pressure on his safety so they get to build more surveillance bunkers etc. and another miraculous recovery comes in handy to whip his followers into more of a righteous frenzy.
All to keep him locked in for a 3rd term.

Perhaps he'll lose a toe this time? Shot in the butt?

[–] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 28 points 2 weeks ago

Trump actually cant book indoor event spaces anymore. They've stuffed so many for his campaigns, they aren't interested in getting stiffed again. Thats how the butler pa event ended up outside.

Please note that this is the guy that hates the sight of wind turbines out in the distance. They ugly.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Wind turbines look freaking bad ass!

[–] prenatal_confusion@feddit.org 11 points 2 weeks ago

I absolutely agree

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

There's a lot of wind turbines where I live and driving past them feels extremely blissful. Just looking at them gives me hope.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

And unlike him, wind turbines serve a useful purpose

There is nothing Trump has done that should be permanent.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

He better permanently stay dead once he dies. When I would wish for the world to be more like a disney movie as a kid, I didn't mean Star Wars. I don't want to see headlines saying "Somehow, Trump has returned."

WHO THE FUCK TOLD HIM ABOUT THE EIFFEL TOWER?

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 29 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Just what I was thinking. There's no way orange hitler knew that it was originally a temporary structure that became permanent.

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

I swear there was a popular meme template years ago of him typing on his phone, and another panel of a search browser saying "what does a president do?". Can't find it now. But I imagine that template with a wiki page or the tower

It's probably been mentioned many times already, but here it goes anyway:
"If you put a clown onto the throne, the clown will not turn into a king. The palace will turn into a circus."

as cathartic as that sounds, he doesn't care.

the only thing that he cares about is himself. the best punishment for him would be to be locked in a room with read only Internet to watch the world move on and him die not being able to be the center of attention.

the best way to win a game against a narcissist is to play a different game with impossible to follow rules for them.

This whole term in the White House feels like the worst Airbnb trashing story and then some.

And, like a UFC event venue, will likely require fire hoses to wash out a good portion of the trash and stank.

Slaps top of arena This thing can hold so many guillotines

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago

Not surprising - Bonespurs thinks he's permanent too.

Honestly I think this is great. Some tacky bloodsport arena is a refreshingly honest reflection of the true national character of this country.

Much more fitting than the weird civil religion stuff going on in the rest of the national mall. This country does not deserve dignity until it stops being a global force for evil.

I can see the logic. Build a colosseum and stage gladiatorial contests, distract the masses and get made emperor for life. But what a pathetic attempt at a colosseum this is.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Jesus is just a name to them. Any chance of them actually following things taught is long gone. Jesus, like Trump, is a tool they use. Nothing more.

[–] Sabin10@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Belief is salvation. That's American Christianity. The rest of it doesn't matter.

[–] PrimeMinisterKeyes@leminal.space 11 points 2 weeks ago

Relevant quote from Carl Sagan's "The Demon-Haunted World":

[The 1939 New York World's Fair's president] Grover Whalen - a former corporate executive, New York City police chief in a time of unprecedented police brutality, and public relations innovator [...] had convinced Stalin and Mussolini to build lavish national pavilions. (He later complained about how often he had been obliged to give the fascist salute.) The level of the exhibits, as one designer described it, was pitched to the mentality of a twelve-year-old.
