[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

No thanks! 😊

[–] Quibblekrust@thelemmy.club 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It reminds me of that Black Mirror episode where you can clone your consciousness into a personal assistant Alexa thingy, and then when it doesn't behave right because, you know... it's you, and it doesn't want to be trapped into a personal assistant thingy, you torture it by leaving it alone for a year of simulated time. And then when it misbehaved again, the character left it alone for like 15,000 years.

Don't you wish it could be Christmas every day?

but it checks out

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 37 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yup, that is the sole reason why I won't let Elon put a chip in my brain.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 21 points 2 days ago (4 children)

... Not because of that one episode of Black Mirror?

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 days ago

That one episode? How about all of them.

That show is like fear of the future set in crystal

[–] TheFriendlyDickhead@feddit.org 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That one was truly fucked up. I realy liked most of black mirror, but that one was a bit to much for me. What broke me was seeing the guy at the end missing multiple teeth and it's very obvious where they went...

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't actually remember that detail. I mostly remember the premise of the episode: torturing you with visuals to make you comply.

But yeah. Torture in general, physical or mental, is messed up.

[–] joostjakob@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's because they're talking about another one, where someone's braindamage is countered by a part of their brain being ran on a commercial cloud. Of course, enshittification follows, and her husband resorts to extreme measures to pay for the increasing cost.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ah, gotcha. Thank you for the information. I'm at least a bit behind on that show and don't remember that premise from it at all, so I think it must have been after I last watched it. I think the last Black Mirror thing I saw was that interactive choice movie, but I might be misremembering.

FWIW, I also liked Love, Death & Robots and it was mostly less depressing and/or frightening.

[–] joostjakob@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Yep, there's a few episodes made after that

thats the only reason? you have more confidence in that asshats tech not catching fire than is healthy

[–] CodiUnicorn@programming.dev 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Call me insane, but I'd like to experience those future tech stuff just to see what memes will be like lol

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 42 points 2 days ago (4 children)

How do you know you are not in one right now, and could Zap out at any second?

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

You went back to the carpet store?!

[–] CodiUnicorn@programming.dev 18 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Wait... Oh. Oh no. That's why everything that's happening feels like a fever dream. I'm living in a meme from the 23rd century!

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sometimes I'll say "Computer! End simulation." Just to check.

[–] Naz@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 days ago (2 children)
Unable to comply. Insufficient user permissions.
[–] yakko@feddit.uk 16 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Think I was happier not getting an answer.

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 4 points 2 days ago

Yeah, present day does kind of feel worse than falling for ten thousand gears through a sea of knives.

[–] DreadPirateShawn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 28 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's longer than you think.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 7 points 2 days ago

Or a K hole if you're less fancy.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yeah this, salvia is anything but some light recreational fun.

Or anything that might help with mental problems.

Last time I went the spirits kicked me out for being too much of a noob to their realm. But that was like 15-20 years ago.

Joke’s on them. I send them goatse and other late 90s early 00s sites and scar them for life, just like I’ve been.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

If that scarred you for life, you had a wonderfully harmless life 😉

[–] Jesus_666@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Go with the times. Make a version where they fall into The Receiver's gaping colon for 10,000 years. Make Hampster Dance start playing after 5,000 years just to fuck with them.

[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 17 points 2 days ago

Duration has really inflated. Back then we used to have only 10 hours of things.

This is why when we say SET and SETTING, that includes who you have around.

Don't trip with rotters like that around.
