I like to be aware of the news, but seeing the same things over and again can really wear down one's spirit. Are there any communities here on Lemmy that you use to take a break from reality? That help you decompress, think about other things, or that make you laugh?

I imagine a lot of us scrolling through the doom every day could use some amusing communities right now. What's yours?

Showerthoughts can be really good, so long as the "Shower thought" isn't a thinly veiled political rant.

[โ€“] essell@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Thinly veiled?

Maybe we Start Calling them "shower curtain thoughts"? ๐Ÿค”

There are a few others, but these ones would be my go to 'the world is not the most important thing happening right now. They're not all 'amusing' but they're all great to get get a better taste in the mouth (and in the soul).

Those communities don't post too much so it doesn't bother me to stay subscribed to all of them (plus a few more) since my feed never feels saturated. Even less that my feed only shows 'subscribed'.

I love all of these, thanks for sharing them

[โ€“] Libb@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

More than happy to oblige, feel free to share your own if you have any :)

I've found some absolute bangers through that comm.

I've got a tab group of about seven or eight games to play whenever I reach a natural break in my workflow and want to tune out for a few minutes every day.

Bandle is probably my favourite.

[โ€“] rudyharrelson@lemmy.radio 7 points 3 weeks ago

Oh wow, Bandle is a really neat idea. I'm adding that one to my daily puzzle folder

And I'll also second @squirrel@piefed.kobel.fyi's recommendation of !dailygames@lemmy.zip. I finally got the bot I run for that community up and running on a computer that isn't my desktop, so make sure you haven't disabled bot accounts!

I keep a couple feeds of lemmy communities that don't focus on politics or tech (though sometimes those topics sneak in):

[โ€“] Zagorath@aussie.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago

I love that I clicked on highsignal, a "low-meme" feed, and the first picture was some Maccas chips.
