An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

https://dullmensclub.com/

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

The current community here on world will stay open. I have no plans of shutting it down unless the community decides it should.

Thank you all again for creating such a wondetful place,I look forward to seeing the community continue to grow.

I've created a new Lemmy instance at dullsters.net

When I created this community several months ago I had no aspirations of it becoming much of anything. In a short amount of time it has grown to over 1500 subscribers and is one of the top recommended non-political communities. I am always looking forward to the posts that are shared here, and the unique culture being developed.

I see the importance of the decentralized aspect of the Fediverse. We frequently see drama surrounding moderation and federation policies. None of that applies to the content in this community.

I have no qualms with admins running their site the way they want to and they are often placed in difficult positions. However, this is one of the true places of neutrality on the Fediverse and it should remain that way.

In the few months this community has existed there have been maybe a half dozen moderation actions taken. You have remained, for the most part, very dull, and I thank you for that.

The name of the community should be changed, I hadn't realized that dull men's club was the result of someone else's ideas and work. The new name should represent this community that you all have created and the place it exists, The Fediverse.

The new instance won't have any users except for the purpose of moderation, you will still use your account from a federated instance. I'm still ironing out a few wrinkles with the site, it should be done whenever I get around to it.

In the meantime suggestions for the new name should be made in a top level comment so that they can be voted on.

Thank you all once again for making this community what it is.

This is a tad embarrassing. You see, I thought that I was merely copying a popular Facebook group. I was unaware that Dull Men's Club was an official club. Please give the site a peruse as it is quite a delight!

I had no free buckets to hold the derusting solution in that the vise would fit comfortably, so I had to use a plastic box that was too wide. It would not submerge fully in the 1 Liter of derusting solution I bought, I had to soak one side for 24 hours and then the other side for 24 hours. It mostly cleared the rust. I'm considering painting it now, but I don't think I'm going to.

No bourbon or anything, just spicy ginger ale and sour cherry.

Brands blacked out so as to not be promoting products.

I say "proper" rack because I was going cheap and didn't realize this one uses threaded holes for mounting instead of the square holes + cage nuts like a big boy rack. (The uprights actually have the square holes on the sides, but the way it assembles, they are just about 1/2" too narrow to accommodate rack mount equipment)

Nothing too crazy... AT&T craptacular modem, Ubiquiti gateway, couple of switches, media server chock full of refurb drives, pihole to keep the ads away, and an ancient laptop for a console. But it was all scattered on some plastic shelving before... Now it's at least on a wheeled rack where it kinda looks like I know what I'm doing.

Next step is cleaning up the cabinet above it, including a giant mess of coax cables lying in a heap 😅

In response to u/FridayLives. Planet Fitness has been taking $10 a month from my bank account for years. They figured out if they stop taking the $30 annual BS fee from inactive members, most of us let $10 a month slide; and I did for a long time.

The burning part was far too exciting to talk about.

I had dental surgery like, a month ago. Posted about it here. Instead of a front tooth I've got a metal (titanium I think?) cap sticking out of my gums. The tip of my tongue constantly touches it and I'm really over it.

The weirdest part is every time I brush my teeth it feels cold for like an hour. The button has a female drive to it (I think it's Torx?) and it holds onto toothpaste.

At least I'm off my no biting things diet. There's stuff that's still impractical to eat but I can have sandwiches now.

I've started doing the same thing and it's a lot of fun 📏

The trees made for an unsafe exit when in full bloom, so I got out ahead of that and cut them down. One of the trees was big enough that I had to use a wedge and notch cut with rope to keep it from falling on a busy road. I succeeded. Now we can see way farther when turning out and are safer. Yes, I used eye protection and gloves.

I didn't have to do anything because it's been seeding 24/7 for a few years now. But as I checked my stats on various torrents, I got the pleasant surprise that another person cares about outing these pathetic losers. Cheers.

spoilerWorth noting, Patriot Front had a huge leak of data in 2022 (400GB).

Patriot Front Fascist Leak Exposes Nationwide Racist Campaigns

You can download it at the following torrent address:

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:2c87816e4c81990fb25bbca43dd8d578eaa55886&dn=patriotfront&tr=udp%3A%2F%2F9.rarbg.to%3A2920&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.opentrackr.org%3A1337&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fexodus.desync.com%3A6969

I happen to be seeding this on a permanent basis. I have a gigabit uplink. Please leach and share. Expose these fucks.

Relaxing and challenging. It's in the morning, I wonder if it was in the afternoon, would it be a good prep for sleep time?

I accidentally bought ground coffee instead of whole beans. So when the grinder ran out of beans, I took it apart and gave it a decent scrub. When I use it again, it should grind smoother and maybe even get the coffee tasting better.

Had been considering joining a gym for like 3 years now, on and off. My brain keeps re-prioritizing it. Finally got around to get one. Planning to go in today.

Went for a jog yesterday (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

I've been lifting weights consistently for a couple years and consider myself to be in good shape. It's time to come off the winter bulk and I figured that starting up jogging would be an easy way to improve my conditioning and start dropping some weight, so I went out for my first jog yesterday after work.

The experience was humbling, it was shocking. In my youth I was an avid runner but have been out of it for a long time, I could not believe how difficult it was running while carrying this extra weight! For anyone else going through the same thing, hang in there

But then realised I forgot about a morning meeting.

So now I am HYPED for my work day… and still need to get the antidepressant effects from a workout later today.

It was time so I really threw out tons of cables nobody will ever need again and of the rest I kept one or at most two.

Today the obvious happened. One of those cables nobody ever needs again? Well I need one. So I have to buy one for way too much money. Never again, I'll hoard all the cables from now on and become a Copper Dragon.

I noticed that some of the extension cords around the house constantly had empty sockets or their cord was coiled up since it was far too long. Some others had cords constantly being swapped, or the cord was too short and it was laying on the floor, getting dry humped by the robot vacuum.

I took inventory of all the extension cords in the house, mapped their expected required length and socket amounts and swapped them around until I had one that was too long, and one unused socket.

I also have one spare long 3-socket one, since there was one outlet that had one un-used socket, and there were only 2 required, so I could remove the 3-socket long cord extension cord completely.

I haven't been this happy since I bought a gutter cleaner tool with an extendable handle, so I don't need to climb on the roof or on a ladder to clean the gutters.

Had a hard time deciding Fluidmaster or Corkys. Both universal kits were priced the same.

Daiso had both alkaline and traditional carbon-zinc batteries in this size. I chose the latter because it's for a 1960s device and I think that was the default battery chemistry in the era, plus modern alkaline batteries seem very prone to leaking when left alone for 10 years.

Drywall jobs are a common occurrence in my line of work. I was fixing a cracked seam at a customer's house and had about a 15 mm deep gap to fill. Generally, I've just used the pre-mixed stuff from a bucket, but that dries so slowly and shrinks so much that a job like this would have needed to be spread over at least four days.

Decided to give the quick-setting bag stuff a shot, and wow - what a difference. Not only could I pre-fill the gap in one day, but I also managed to get the tape over it, leaving only the finish coat for tomorrow. This will save me literal months over my career.

I love discovering good new products and tools.
