Maybe if billionaire oligarchs fall out of windows and the world keeps turning, billionaire oligarchs weren't really needed either.

Funny enough an AI would do his type of job very well. Spout bullshit and hallucinate an outcome, with just enough factual information to sound plausible. Sounds like a ceo to me.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 4 weeks ago

in idiocracy, the AI controls the society , no bosses, no csuites, no middle management but it built its "AI" on stupid peoples experiences.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 54 points 4 weeks ago

Sam Altman doesn't work a real job.

[–] toe@lemmy.world 53 points 4 weeks ago

Self awareness at an all time low there Sammy boy….

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 41 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Well then say goodbye to all the CEOs. I’m sure an LLM could figure out how to do a better job than them and they have no golden parachutes either!

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

One argument is that CEOs exist to take the blame when things go wrong. You can only do that once with an LLM, and then everything goes back to a human.

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 weeks ago

Yes. Line goes down, it's their fault.

They get a golden parachute, yes, but their purpose is to take that golden parachute.

Jobs. Get.

I guess Yahoo’s headline writing AI doesn’t understand subject verb agreement. Unless Altman is talking about Steve Jobs, who is dead.

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago

If Steve Jobs gets wiped out…

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 26 points 4 weeks ago

If billionaires meet Luigi, maybe they weren't even real people to start with?

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 25 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

look I love to shit on AI, but this is a fucking terrible misleading headline

The thing about that farmer,” Altman said, is not only that they wouldn’t believe you, but “they very likely would look at what you do and I do and say, ‘that’s not real work.'”

This, Altman said, makes him feel “a little less worried” but “more worried in some other ways.”

“If you’re, like, farming, you’re doing something people really need,” Altman explained. “You’re making them food, you’re keeping them alive. This is real work.” But the farmer would see our modern jobs as “playing a game to fill your time,” and therefore not a “real job.”

“It’s very possible that if we could see those jobs of the future,” Altman said, we’d think “maybe our jobs were not as real as a farmer’s job, but it’s a lot more real than this game you’re playing to entertain yourself.”

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah that's way different, thanks for sharing.

[–] phneutral@feddit.org 2 points 4 weeks ago

Reading it like this: He is right. But my conclusion is most likely very different to the one OpenAi is offering. Thinking of David Graeber.

[–] QuantumTickle@lemmy.zip 24 points 4 weeks ago

"If my AI is capable of doing it, it was a shit job. Subscribe to my AI."

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 21 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

CEOs certainly do no real work.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world -5 points 4 weeks ago

Yes they're egregiously overpaid and they need to stop that, but see what hypothetically happens when CEO & entry-level employee trade places: https://youtube.com/shorts/BOa_rd0f0rQ

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 4 weeks ago

This actually jives well with the concept of the business idiot. https://www.wheresyoured.at/the-era-of-the-business-idiot/

AI is being promoted by the business idiots because they see how it makes their job disposable. On the other hand, people who do work know that AI isn’t actually that useful.

[–] etherphon@piefed.world 19 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Says the guy with the company set to make billions and billions of dollars on the AI trained solely on the hard work of other people with zero compensation. Fuck you dude.

[–] arox@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz 11 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

Where is he talking all these nonce from? Is he even real at this point?

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 weeks ago

He asked ChatGPT.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 weeks ago

did you read the article?

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 weeks ago

chatgpt is uploaded in his mind, via the METAVERSE.

[–] Philharmonic3@lemmy.world 11 points 4 weeks ago

I'm so sad to see the best possible way to legitimize a Universal Basic Income being wasted

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 4 weeks ago

at the same time bill gates said the same thing, with different words.

[–] Hellotypewriter@retrolemmy.com 6 points 4 weeks ago

AI doesn’t create value. It extracts value from the work of millions of people. Fuck Sam Altman.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago

You first, Sam.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago

And here I thought it was going to be him referencing Graeber in a way that indicates he never read the full book or understood its point. But nope, dumber.

Altman, if the masses are unemployed and you're fabulously wealthy, well, read a history book to see what happens.

[–] OctopusNemeses@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago

Read the article before replying. Too late for some of you anyways.

[–] aggelalex@lemmy.world 5 points 4 weeks ago

He's right. AI isn't doing a good job anyway. If a company can """replace""" (cut) jobs like that and survive, the position is useless.

The question is, is it truly so? Or did this move start the company's doomsday clock?

[–] nightlily@leminal.space 5 points 4 weeks ago

If jobs replaced by LLMs and image generators aren’t real work, then what work did those steal from?

[–] Bennyboybumberchums@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Looking at most of the comments, it seems reading past the headline isnt real work either, as no one wants to do it... lol.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 3 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Not with that kind of headline, no.
Great, so now I did read it and it was a waste of time. I blame you Bunny Boy.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 weeks ago

Terrible headline.
