I dunno I heard some American with a spray tan say that they didn't need Europe or Canada...

The first sentence is true, the second sentence maybe but I don't know. That's why I am saying this is the first sign of resistance in the chamber, because up til now it was a lot of humming and hawing about how bad this is but otherwise nodding along as if it was business as usual, but this could be one of a future series of acts of resistance. It's easy to write off all Democratic senators, but this is the first tangible delay to the Republican majority's business. He brought to the spotlight many important messages in front of many people, about taxing the rich, giving affordable healthcare etc. (unlike Ted Cruz's timewaster filibuster that was reading Green Eggs and Ham and stuff).

So many people seem to miss the point. Booker essentially became a streamer for a day except with usually boring Senate stuff, and was able to get at least a few people energized about important topics on how to resist Trump and cause "good trouble". He pushed his health and stamina to an admirable extent for a politician. It's far more newsworthy than Democrats waving little handboards around.

I've found my fellow lemmings to be pleasant, but I also believe that that is due to trying to be helpful and polite myself and being willing to apologize when warranted.

Thank you for your part in bringing healthy, helpful and constructive discussion to Lemmy.

I try to be more constructive and positive... you get what you give for the most part. There are trolls abound like any online platform but ignore, report and/or block them and move on with your day.

There is no one I seen here who even had expressed any passion towards anything really.

All/Top is mostly general posts, news and memes. There are a lot of smaller communities on Lemmy that are about people's passions.

Is technology your passion (judging by your posts)? If so check out more specific communities on stuff like Android, Apple, retro computing, homeassistant, linux, windows, etc. If it's something else chances are there's a community for that (albeit it could be relatively inactive). The technology subs attract general discussion, so go for the niches.

Credit should be given where due: Sen. Booker is about to make history in less than an hour, breaking the record for the longest filibuster in US history.

Edit: He did it! Now it's on every American and person around the world to resist the Trump administration.

Honestly the first actual sign of resistance from within the Senate chamber.

Vote Republican to allow Trump to raise the price of eggs, fire you from your job, take away your retirement and deport your spouse to El Salvador!

What the heck??? This is bizarre...

Lutnick was trying to competently play "good cop, bad cop" diplomacy for Trump, because of Trump's personal fixations with tariffs, and was mildly successful as far as successes in this administration go. But I remembered we can't have any semblance of independent thinking in the Trump administration, no siree. It all makes sense now.

Hey it's just like Amtrak's PoorBid system of selling business/first class seats (the real name is BidUp).

Screenshot of Amtrak website, a slider to and an arc shaped bar representing a $110 offer of poor strength

If you feel like it you can just put the minimum bid and see what happens. If it's off peak and mid week chances are pretty good.

It's not one of the crossings in the dashboard... Point Roberts is very screwed because Canadian tourism and package pickup is like their entire business.

I am really getting the sense this group of PhD holders are doing their almighty best to pick words and write their statement in a way that people with a grade-school reading ability can understand.

Both things can be true, but it's funny that two opposite sounding replies came to this one comment about US politics.

Une explication divertissante que pourquoi les droits de douanes vont faire mal des États-Unis et une guerre commerciale avec ses pays alliées très stupide.

UnitedHealthcare threatening to sue Dr. Elisabeth Potter MD for her Instagram video and the comments supporting Luigi it received. Been thinking of this out of the bath. Enjoy this thought the next time you are in a bath or hot tub.

The fuss may be over with Mangione’s departure, but Wright said he and his fellow inmates will be watching intently as he gets his day in court.

“His brothers here will intently follow his case as it moves forward through the criminal justice system, all the while telling anyone who’ll listen, if it had been them, what they would have done to keep from getting arrested in the first place,” he wrote.
