And the American Gestapo violently assaulted American citizens there and murdered someone too.

[–] ssroxnak@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Another reason to not like the militarization of law enforcement. There were no pictures of guardsmen. Does that mean only federal agents were there and nobody realized? The line between the military and law enforcement is no longer a blur, it's a fucking mosaic.

That was always how it was going to go. Governments eo what they have the power to do

In France, when they piss of the farmers, they protest by bringing the farm equipment to them. Some are loaded with poop.

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 17 points 22 hours ago

Unless you're a clinate portestor in France, then you're a terrorist and treated as such. Farmer protestors are a.protected species world wide. eg the UK

https://www.monbiot.com/2024/02/29/outrage-farming/

Sunak leads a government that has introduced the most draconian anti-protest laws in our democratic history. These laws are deployed exclusively against official enemies: environmental campaigners, republicans, feminists, Muslims. If you belong to one of these groups and you block a road, you might go to prison. If you are a farmer and you block a road, the prime minister might join you.

2019 the French destroyed 60% of all speed cameras in the country in protest to raising fuel taxes,

[–] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The difference is that the French have spines

[–] drhodl@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

Americans are yellow, cheeseburger eating, surrender monkeys....!

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (3 children)

That and ICE has enough money now for an armored division.

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 20 hours ago

Eventually. The budget approval and equipment ramp-up will have a lag of months at minimum. Now is the time to rent all the white vans and hide them in an abandoned factory so they have nothing to drive but George's mom's Chevy Nova.

[–] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That has no bearing on it. If the sides are uneven, you fight unevenly.

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

This is something you say when you have no skin in the game.

[–] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Oh please, the entire world has skin in this game. The world's most powerful country has been overrun by fascists, and half the people who can stop it before it leaves its borders are too "scawed" to do anything and the other half is rooting for the fascists.

[–] KMAMURI@lemmy.world -2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

So many cowards with big mouths and big guns sitting at home waiting for the rest of us to straighten out their mess.

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Nobody asked you for help. Just pointing out it's easy to ask someone else to become Tank Man.

[–] KMAMURI@lemmy.world 0 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

I'll remember that no one asked for my help. I'll remember that in fact when I offered help I was told to go away and fuck off long before your drumphkins was brought to power twice. I'll remember that you're fascist lovers and refuse to fight for yourselves. I'll remember that you don't need me or my countrymen even when we are in your country volunteering to help. No worries there. I have lots of first hand experience to solidify those memories.

Good luck with that when you really do need us to help because at this rate it's coming faster than you can imagine. You and your countrymen have guaranteed my skills will not be offered to assist nor will those of anyone who will listen to me and people like me and read your comments.

Being a coward is easy. Standing up to fascists is hard. Back to the couch.

[–] wanderingmagus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Ask the Russians how their armored divisions are doing. Drones are cheap.

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Ukraine has trained military personnel and instruction from the finest minds in the West. And actual armor of their own. This is no comparison, you need to temper your expectations.

[–] KMAMURI@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

They didn't at the beginning. They had a half assed army barely supplied, a navy with no ships and an Airforce that was basically grounded. Using equipment from the 1970' and 80's. Look it up. Their military was at best backwater until the Russians invaded Crimea. Quit making excuses.

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

I'm aware. What little Ukraine had to start with is more than any collective group of counter protesters in the USA have access to right now. They also had sovereignty that world powers could throw weight behind. What world power is going to sponsor US citizens to fight their own government?

These aren't excuses, this is reality.

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Counterpoint, there are more firearms in possession of the American civilian populace than there were in the Ukrainian military during the February invasion.

If the American politiy doesn't want to be governed, it's going to take a whole lot of concentration camps to make it governable.

[–] KMAMURI@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

You won't get support until you organise and resist. It's pretty simple. Ukraine didn't have a backer either. People had their kids and Baba's filling glass bottles with styrofoam.

You'll never gain my support again, ever. Allowing threats of annexation of Canada and silence from all of 'murica on that subject. Instigation of economic warfare on us was just another strike. Now it's the complicity of the American people to complete fascism and arguments against doing anything to stand up for yourselves and your neighbors.

I'll meet you at the border though when they press you into service for the water wars. No matter how prepared I am.

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 48 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

My french friend told me that the dairy farmers once protested by dumping a massive amount of milk on the streets of Paris one time. Apparently the smell was..... Well you can imagine.

The French know how to protest.

In Northern Ireland they load them with fuel

[–] Sp00kyB00k@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Same here in the Netherlands.

The National Guard left shortly after 1 p.m., once protesters approached with their hands raised in the air.

So, you treat the National Guard the same as a black bear? Just make yourself appear larger and they will leave.

[–] GeraldOfHillwood@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)
[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Wow, I don't know why they keep saying "we're unarmed"... people start open carrying at these protests. You want them to back off and leave? You want to not get shot with rubber bullets? These SS members are doing that shit because they know there won't be any force returned to them. If this crowd showed up armed, they would have left a long time ago.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 31 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No. I keep hearing this line of rhetoric and it's stupid.

It's what Magats want.

The national guardsmen? Military in general? Yeah they're some fucked up folk in there who get off on killing. But the majority just want to do whatever the fuck they've been trained to do, and shooting unarmed Americans isn't that.

Kent State was a long ass time ago, and nowadays one round from a protestor would create a massacre.

[–] sartalon@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

CIVIL disobedience. You can't give them an excuse to escalate. They do dumb shit, they look terrible on t.v., but the moment a protestor crosses that line, it'll be plastered everywhere and used as an excuse for escalation.

Fuck ICE.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

You do know why firearm protests were peaceful right? There were 20k+ people armed in Virginia. The police got the fuck way back, and did not escalate force. The boots think they're hot shit until the other side can sling hot shit towards them.

[–] oyo@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Open carry is basically always illegal in CA, so you better have critical mass cause if you're lucky enough not to get shot you're going to jail for a few years.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

True but I'm talking about protests where it's legal. I don't know if this is considered rural though since it's a farming area. Which is exempt from the open carry ban.

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (3 children)

For that to work, you need enough firepower to actually win. Anything short, and it will be a bloodbath, on your side.

By approaching while very obviously not being a threat, it jamms their training, and forces them to think. Once they are thinking, they likely REALLY don't want to be the ones to start shooting at American protesters.

Yes.

So… Paintball guns and let it rain blue? They hurt like hell though… enough to make you stop and think. Maybe…

[–] KingGimpicus@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Americans don't think lmfao especially the police. Did you know that it is legal to discriminate against applicants to the police if they are too smart? There's whole court cases about this. Apparently, the argument is that people who are smarter will be less obedient when given an order because they might just employ some critical thinking skills instead of blindly following directions.

Police don't want thinkers. They might be "bored" or "dissatisfied" when they figure out they're nothing but bullies to keep the citizens in line.

So no, if you see a cop in riot gear at a protest, do not expect a thinking, feeling, or compassionate human being. A cop in riot gear is a goon through and through, and a trusted goon at that. Goons only understand force, and if you show them more force than they're prepared to handle, their core programming as self serving cowards will come to the surface. Self serving cowards are people who can be salvaged. Goons are not.

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They are goons, but programmed goons. If you play to the programming then you will get their desired response. By forcing them outside their programming, they have to improvise.

The smarter ones realise shooting first is a bad idea, politically. The stupider ones just want out, and notice the smarter ones seem similarly inclined.

Staying within the programming is a lose-lose situation for the protestors. You need to get outside the patterns to get new results.

It's also worth noting that this is a very American thing, not a universal one. Your police are very broken, and in desperate need of an overhaul.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Thanks for such a good response. Love to see it.

I think you misspelled “there would have been a bloodbath.”

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

thats one of the reason they dont target red states, or red areas more.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, you can bring a gun and they can bring rifles, armored transporters, dogs, gas and grenades. You think they will run away because someone has a gun?

[–] magic_smoke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No they'll run away because many people do.

Fascists are fucking cowards.

They only show their true intent when they think they hold all the cards. Everything else is just snake oil sold to help them slither their way into power.

[–] match@pawb.social 3 points 1 day ago

uh oh, ongoing!
