Wow, I don't know why they keep saying "we're unarmed"... people start open carrying at these protests. You want them to back off and leave? You want to not get shot with rubber bullets? These SS members are doing that shit because they know there won't be any force returned to them. If this crowd showed up armed, they would have left a long time ago.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 31 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No. I keep hearing this line of rhetoric and it's stupid.

It's what Magats want.

The national guardsmen? Military in general? Yeah they're some fucked up folk in there who get off on killing. But the majority just want to do whatever the fuck they've been trained to do, and shooting unarmed Americans isn't that.

Kent State was a long ass time ago, and nowadays one round from a protestor would create a massacre.

[–] sartalon@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

CIVIL disobedience. You can't give them an excuse to escalate. They do dumb shit, they look terrible on t.v., but the moment a protestor crosses that line, it'll be plastered everywhere and used as an excuse for escalation.

Fuck ICE.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

You do know why firearm protests were peaceful right? There were 20k+ people armed in Virginia. The police got the fuck way back, and did not escalate force. The boots think they're hot shit until the other side can sling hot shit towards them.

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (3 children)

For that to work, you need enough firepower to actually win. Anything short, and it will be a bloodbath, on your side.

By approaching while very obviously not being a threat, it jamms their training, and forces them to think. Once they are thinking, they likely REALLY don't want to be the ones to start shooting at American protesters.

[–] KingGimpicus@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Americans don't think lmfao especially the police. Did you know that it is legal to discriminate against applicants to the police if they are too smart? There's whole court cases about this. Apparently, the argument is that people who are smarter will be less obedient when given an order because they might just employ some critical thinking skills instead of blindly following directions.

Police don't want thinkers. They might be "bored" or "dissatisfied" when they figure out they're nothing but bullies to keep the citizens in line.

So no, if you see a cop in riot gear at a protest, do not expect a thinking, feeling, or compassionate human being. A cop in riot gear is a goon through and through, and a trusted goon at that. Goons only understand force, and if you show them more force than they're prepared to handle, their core programming as self serving cowards will come to the surface. Self serving cowards are people who can be salvaged. Goons are not.

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They are goons, but programmed goons. If you play to the programming then you will get their desired response. By forcing them outside their programming, they have to improvise.

The smarter ones realise shooting first is a bad idea, politically. The stupider ones just want out, and notice the smarter ones seem similarly inclined.

Staying within the programming is a lose-lose situation for the protestors. You need to get outside the patterns to get new results.

It's also worth noting that this is a very American thing, not a universal one. Your police are very broken, and in desperate need of an overhaul.

Thanks for such a good response. Love to see it.

Yes.

So… Paintball guns and let it rain blue? They hurt like hell though… enough to make you stop and think. Maybe…

[–] oyo@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Open carry is basically always illegal in CA, so you better have critical mass cause if you're lucky enough not to get shot you're going to jail for a few years.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

True but I'm talking about protests where it's legal. I don't know if this is considered rural though since it's a farming area. Which is exempt from the open carry ban.

I think you misspelled “there would have been a bloodbath.”

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

thats one of the reason they dont target red states, or red areas more.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, you can bring a gun and they can bring rifles, armored transporters, dogs, gas and grenades. You think they will run away because someone has a gun?

[–] magic_smoke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No they'll run away because many people do.

Fascists are fucking cowards.

They only show their true intent when they think they hold all the cards. Everything else is just snake oil sold to help them slither their way into power.
