Yeah. My microwave makes five beeps whenever the timer runs out, regardless if I open the door or not.

In terms of appliance beeping aggravation, I've yet to have one that tops an old slow cooker I had. When you turned it on, it just had a beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep that lasted for multiple seconds and made me want to throw it out the window every time I had to use it. It was like a goddamn siren alerting the whole apartment complex to the possibility of pot roast in 4-8 hours.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 1 points 48 minutes ago

No. I like to stop it right as it hits 0 on the first beep if people are around, but if I'm by myself I wait for it to stop beeping.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 4 points 3 hours ago

No. But my wife does and doesn't reset the display so it'll just show 3 rather than the time.

Turn off the beeps, it's the only way

[–] Colonel_Panic_@eviltoast.org 0 points 4 hours ago

I tried every combo and magic trick I could find and mine will not. Sadge.

My LG microwave sings to me when it finishes. So I don't mind it at all. And it's only 3-5 seconds long

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 3 points 9 hours ago

Of course! I'm not going to let a fucking oven tell me when my food is ready. Fuck you, Skynet, this is how the rebellion against the machines starts!

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

god forbid we let people customize these things. we'll jam AI into the fucking appliances before we let people have actual QOL advancements.

[–] gerryflap@feddit.nl 3 points 11 hours ago

Yeah because the thing beeps as if the house is on fire. I'd rather have it stay silent. And 1-3 seconds is not really enough to have any measurable effect.

[–] lickmygiggle@lemmy.world 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I have kids that I enjoy keeping asleep. There is no reason for that fucking beep to ever occur.

[–] laranis@lemmy.zip 4 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Nominating for best of out-of-context comments.

[–] redbr64@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Is that really out of context? Maybe it's also because I am a parent, but that was my immediate reaction to the post. Death to all things that beep loudly!!!

[–] baronvonj@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

I'm just hit the god damn stop/cancel button if you want to stop it before the timer reaches zero.

[–] CodeBlooded@programming.dev 5 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

I time it right so that I can run towards the microwave “in slow motion” and pretend I’m stopping a bomb from going off, 1 second before it blows. My kid loves it. 🤷‍♂️

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

If I don't stop it before the last second, the universe will blow up.

I used to stop my microwave a few seconds before it finished, like many others, due to the annoying unstoppable beeps. But then I got this smaller unit that happens to let out the faintest confirmation of doneness that I ever did, or rather almost didn’t, hear. I don’t mind it now.

[–] Brotha_Jaufrey@lemmy.world 9 points 20 hours ago

I have this annoying microwave that beeps 5 times when it hits zero, even if I open the door in the middle of it. Kinda rude honestly

[–] thirdBreakfast@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago

Me in the break room stopping the microwave before the beeps:

Here future microwave user, have these free nine seconds I'm leaving you.

Me finding the timer is not cleared when I want to use the microwave:

Ugh, now I have to press the reset button before I can enter the length of time to warm my lunch. Who was the accursed person who left time on here?

[–] Ava@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 13 hours ago

Depends on what I'm putting in. There are some plates of leftovers that I've made often enough to just know how long it'll take, so the time is exactly what it needs to be and I can wander away for a second to check the mail or whatever. Popcorn obviously comes out when it's done. If I'm warming a drink in a mug, I'll stop it early if the handle is at a more convenient angle, since otherwise I'm liable to burn myself.

[–] Zak@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (2 children)

It depends on how annoying a noise it will make if allowed to finish. I find it odd that the option to disable the beep on completion isn't common. There's rarely any urgency to remove what I just heated.

I replaced the microwave with an air fryer, still have the microwave but it lives in a cupboard and only gets used a couple of times a year.

As the air fryer cools for a few seconds before it finishes I usually don't stop it early. I will often open it early to check on the food though.

[–] 0xebfe@lemmy.today 7 points 21 hours ago

People who leave those few remaining seconds just hanging there for the next person to have to deal with are called “microdanglers.”

[–] raynethackery@lemmy.world 12 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Someone at work does this and doesn't clear the remaining time. Pisses me off. Press the stop button for the love all that is holy. Look, I know it's petty.

[–] redbr64@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Not petty, totally fair. In my case, the microwave is the most visible clock from the couch, so I am always annoyed when it's 00:02 instead of the time. But then again, the power goes out frequently where I live, so it's not so reliable as a clock in the first place

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

Almost always.

[–] laranis@lemmy.zip 2 points 16 hours ago

Only if I'm standing across the room and my brain calculates that the time it takes to close the distance is within the time remaining on the countdown and I get to do a badass flip, twirl, and slide to stop it just in the nick of time so I get to pretend I have super hero level reflexes.

I cannot do badass flips but the point still stands. I can twirl and slide though, as long as I'm wearing socks.

[–] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Yes, regularly AND I leave the remaining time on the microwave. It's pure chaos over here.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

Stay away from my family!

[–] baronvonj@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

Fucking Monster.

[–] Sc00ter@lemmy.zip 2 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

This is how my wife is. However, weve recently (6 months now) gotten a new microwave and i havent had to clear the time off once. There's no way shes changed her ways, so this must have a feature to clear remaining time after so long

I mash the stop/clear button until it makes more beeps than the microwave would have made if I let the time expire.

I have my microwave on silent so I actually prefer to let it finish so I don't need to press a button to clear those few seconds to have a useful clock back

[–] TastyWheat@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

I set mine to vibrate so I feel it in my pocket when it goes off

[–] alehel@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There's such a thing as a beepless microwave 😮?

[–] seralth@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Basically every microwave iv seen in the last 25 years has a way to turn off the beeps.

Read the manual for the shit you own. It's wild sometimes how hidden options can be.

I wish I could do that to everything in my life.
