Depends on the game. If it's a game I love a lot, then I'm interested in knowing the names of the people who gave me a great experience

I always sit through credits in movies and most TV if I've enjoyed it, games are no different. I like acknowledging the folks who make the things I enjoy.
There's also the chance of some post-credits plot material or other good stuff. I found myself absorbed way into the plot of the first Metal Gear Solid game and I'll never forget the surprise phone conversation which played after those credits, or the absolute chill the final two words of it sent up my spine. (The somewhat underwhelming ways in which that particular plot reveal was taken up in the subsequent games notwithstanding.)
Same with me. If it's really good it's my simple way of honoring them. Plus the music is usually top notch
Totally agree on the music. Bopping in my seat to the game's tunes for one last stretch can be a nice victory lap.
I do it for a lot of different reasons (example in parents):
- Game was good (Obra Dinn): To show appreciation
- Emotional or great story (Witcher 3): To digest
- Very hard game (Celeste): Bask is the victory
- Grindy game: Finally done so I can relax
I always find I wholesome when they list all the people that became parents during time of development. Horizon Zero Dawn is amongst the games that does this.
Horizon Zero Dawn delivering on so many fronts. Love that game. 100%'ed it, and the expansion.
I can't wait to start my Forbidden West adventure.
I usually don't unless there's some sort of entertainment there, like Portal.
I have the end credits of both Portal games in my playlist. I think we can agree those are some of the best credits in gaming history.
Casi no juego videojuegos pero cuando lo he hecho no leo los créditos finales a menos que esté con mucho aburrimiento y aún así no los leería todos nada más me quedaría viendo unos segundos los primeros nombres en lo que pienso que es lo siguiente por hacer
Yes, watching the end credits gives me a sense of accomplishment and I enjoy the things creators put in there
That said, only once. I don’t watch the credits on subsequent playthroughs
That would just be insanity.
Final Fantasy VI has almost 30 minutes of credits. Well worth it for the 50+ hours you can put into it. And the music is so worth it (it’s an epilogue more than just scrolling text)
Kerbal Space Program players: there's an end?
Minecraft players: there actually is.
Only time I've bothered is portal. If you're just going to show me the names of people who made the game I've got better things to do.
This was a triumph
Always. I spent so much time beating the game, might as well sit through the credits. Sometimes developers hide interesting things in there. It's not like a movie where I can fast-forward to the credits anytime I want, so I might as well check it out while it's there.
At worst, I'll just let them run while I distract myself with something else. I don't need to be staring at them for the whole run. But I'm nearby and ready in case something interesting shows up.
The first time I beat Metal Gear Solid 4, it was late at night on a work night. I had stayed up late because I really wanted to finish the game instead of waiting until the next evening. I was so ready for the credits to roll so I could sleep!
Little did I know, cinematic cutscenes kept popping up throughout the credits, changing the end of the game! If I had just turned it off as soon as credits rolled, I would've missed the true end to the story.
Also... the credits and cutscenes at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4 are 90 minutes long! I definitely didn't get enough sleep that night. But it was worth it.
Sometimes, It depends on the game.
What do you mean "beat a video game" ?
I buy them play 20 hours get side tracked never finish them and pick up something else, didn't even know there was credits
Some games yea. Especially if it was an emotional experience. That’s my reflection time.
Depends on how it makes me feel. There was a particular ending in Cyberpunk that I couldn't stand to watch. But typically I feel good and accomplished, so I stick around
There was a particular ending in Cyberpunk that I couldn’t stand to watch.
I struggled to get through the one where Judy is "very sad". The voice acting was phenomenal and heart wrenching.
Cyberpunk 2077's credit sequences are fantastic. I know which ending you're talking about, and those voicemails are hard to listen to.
'cause we lost everythiiiiiing
Definitely. I don't actually finish that many games, might as well savour it when I do. Usually has neat music, too. There's a good chance I'll skip after a couple of minutes if it's very long, though.
Sometimes. Depends on the game.
Metroid games, yes
Usually only if there's something good as part of the credits (eg. Portal 1 & 2)
When I'm in there
Only because NG+ or some kind of end credit scene is often at the end of the credits, which you can't often skip.
Otherwise I skip them because there are usually so many people working on them, they can be over an hour long.
I remember this in the original fable game.
Usually only the first time. Subsequent playthroughs no.
More likely to sit through game credits than movie credits myself
If the game has been very meaningful to me, yes.
Only if they're interesting (like Portal) or if I'm in them and I'm looking for my name there.
no, and unless they are interactive I'm against the whole idea.
edit: I phrased that poorly, I mean credits as we know them now (20 minute sequence scrolling a poorly formatted list of names). obviously people should have their names on things they worked on but it is annoying having it be so obtrusive and long-winded.
I totally get not wanting to watch them, but how can you be against the idea of creators having their name attached to something??
I phrased it poorly, I meant credits as they are now like the slow scroll over a list. i wouldnt mind a screen with a couple pages of names (and in movies, just like flash a few screens if names instead of a 20 minute sequence) but as they are now its just annoying.
You're against the idea of credits?
as they are now, anyway. i don't mind having a screen that shows all the people who worked on something, but this slow scroll over a poorly formatted list is just annoying.
I suppose their username checks out.
Watched the shit out of the credits when I finished outer wilds.
PS: Would like to forget about it all and do it again.
more than likely, yes. I'd be much more inclined to compared to a movie, for instance.
Only if I've had a lot of fun and want to know who is responsible for my happiness, or if the game doesn't allow me to skip them.
That's the only part of the game I play without cheat codes.
