If he could afford an AI video avatar, he could afford a real lawyer. Those things aren't cheap.
Fuck AI
"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
It wasn't in this article but in another one here:
https://www.theregister.com/2025/04/09/court_scolds_ai_entrepreneur_avatar_testify/
The founder of an AI startup who attempted to use an artificially generated avatar to argue his case in court has been scolded by a judge for the stunt.
Dewald, who operates a startup called Pro Se Pro that aims to help unrepresented litigants navigate the US legal system without hiring lawyers, had planned to use an AI service called Tavus to create a realistic video avatar of himself to read his argument to the court.
I remember some saying that he's using this as a stunt for AI company ...
However,
Dewald downplayed the judge's admonition not to use the court as a venue to promote his biz. "There was nothing there that was promoting any business that I have," he said.
It could be that he just really believes in AI. As someone that uses AI for coding every day I'm amazed at his level of confidence in it.
