With all the Switch 2 hoopla, I forgot about the weekly thread.

This was also a busy week, as predicted, so didn't get to do any gaming at all. Things should be getting back to normal though.

Plan to play Dragon Age: The Veilguard over the weekend, and then continue Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition from Monday.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

No other prices are currently listed that I can see. Upgrade Pack cost is also not listed. Looks like Switch 2 first party games will be $79.99 USD going forward.

We finally hear from Doug Bowser!

On the pricing:

“What you see right there is variable pricing,” Bowser told The Washington Post. “We’ll look at each game, really look at the development that’s gone into the game, the breadth and depth of the gameplay, if you will, the durability over time and the repeatability of gameplay experiences.

On Nintendo Switch:

Bowser said Nintendo remains committed to selling the first Switch console. Four years ago, in our first conversation, Bowser said the Switch is “redefining what a console cycle can look like.”

“Now I even wonder what is the definition of a console cycle,” Bowser said. “We’ll continue to keep Nintendo Switch as part of the family, giving consumers a number of different entry points that they can come into the gaming universe.”

(...)

“What I would say is that we’ll continue to observe consumers and how they engage and enter into the platform at various levels to try to really understand what the future may look like,” Bowser said. “Here’s the other point. We have an install base [for the Switch] of 150 million plus units. We’ll probably announce more on May 8 when we have our next earnings call. We want to keep those players engaged. Not all of them may be ready to jump to Switch 2.”

Edit: ~~I changed the image to not be 510 euros for the Switch 2 price but 500, it was not meant to be the MSRP of the Mario Kart bundle but a general actually-sold-as value based on what retailers are listing the normal Switch 2 as.~~ Changed to just be 470 euros now, I don't have a local retailer where you can pre-order it at 470 so keep that in mind.

I've been seeing a significant amount of people saying that the switch prices (even ignoring the video game pricing) is just due to inflation or due to the US tariffs which is nonsense. I think it is important to share images like this around, to show that that isn't the case.

Update thanks to thethatfox:

Physical game cards may also not actually contain the game:

Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key Card Overview

Game-key cards are different from regular game cards, because they don’t contain the full game data. Instead, the game-key card is your "key" to downloading the full game to your system via the internet.

Update 2: There is probably a difference in Game-key cards and card that contain real game data. So we don't know right now how often these game-key cards are used or if nintendo is using them.

TL;DR:

  • Joy-Cons are more comfortable for adult hands, though still not as big as other systems.
  • Mouse mode joy-cons are awkward. The buttons are small and there is no place to rest your other fingers and palm.
  • You will want to have a table if you are playing mouse-oriented games like Metroid Prime 4 and Civ 7.
  • Graphics seem better than the Steam Deck, worse than a PS4 Pro, but will improve as games are optimized.
  • Mouse aim works well in Metroid.
  • Mario Kart World is good and Knockout Tour is a fun addition to the game.

Mario Kart World is launching exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025! In Mario Kart World, you can go off the racetrack and drive virtually everywhere!

Race seamlessly across connected roads and racetracks that deliver Mario Kart racing like never before. Participate in the new Knockout Tour mode, where you’ll barrel through back-to-back courses with no pit stops along the way. And in Free Roam mode, it’s possible to go off the racetrack and drive in any direction you wish, explore areas that pique your interest and take some photos at scenic spots with a group of friends.

More details about the game will be shared in an upcoming Mario Kart World Direct on April 17 at 6am PT.
