They say the reason is to align the date with the US. Bummer that they're lumping Canada together like that.

Given Nintendo's NA HQ is in Seattle, its likely that their supply line runs through Seattle.

Thay said, in my opinion they are just being lazy as they also have a Vancouver facility as well. Port of Vancouver is also bigger, closer to Japan and notably more efficient than Seattle/Tacoma.

Who knows, they might be weighing their options and might shift the delivery hub to BC which would take time, delaying pre-order operations. It might be worth for some hoser to tie a bow on the box for Nintendo and send it to the US for lower tariffs.

This makes sense. Thank you for that perspective.

Other speculation is just that it will cause US scalpers to try to snag all the Canadian preorders through reshipping services or crossing the border. So ostensibly they are doing it to protect our stock.

Makes sense to me, but who knows.

I got curious; Seattle is indeed 100 miles further than Vancouver from Tokyo. That being said, bonded warehouses exist, so there would be no financial benefit to using separate ports or tariff penalty from using a single port.

I was heartened last week when the US pre-sales were delayed but Canada was not... However, here we are.

I wonder if FX is another factor at play here. With such volitility in the market, and almost two months until release, I can see them wanting to limit exposure to both FX and Tariffs. The easiest way to do that is to wait.

Interestingly, this tendency to wait applies to almost all business investment decisions when there is uncertainty / volitility... Leading to increased risk of recession caused by the orange man.

Ah sorry about that -- Foreign Exchange rates - USD / CAD

The value of foreign currencies as they're traded against one another, the market is called forex or FX

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Ah, forex. Never seen it written FX

shrug

Almost all video game retailers in Canada are American, so I was going to buy it direct from Nintendo anyways to cut them out and those preorders have always been set for May 8th.

I honestly don’t even want it until there is oled and a decent launch game. I’ve bought every system going back to NES - but I can’t think why I’d want this one until the OLED and tariffs are settled, and no one cares about Mario Kart tbh

It has a few fans out there

That’s fair, but I’m so tired of it. How many do we need? And after BOTW as a release title day 1, I find Switch 2 so lackluster.
