Nice, I like it :)

You could add a word or phrase to remind people that it's being given away for free to anyone that wants to run it. That might get people to think about any benefit they are getting out of it, and how much they want to donate in response.

I'm not sure what is the best wording for that, but just be careful in case someone misunderstands and thinks it might become paid someday. I've seen that complaint in the past

For example, this could be misinterpreted:

and if you want to keep using it for free

You can also add a note about the frequency of the messages. Saying that you will only remind people once a year is nice to hear, and that way people won't dismiss it thinking they will do it when they are reminded the next time

Last year we had a few submissions and not much interest in voting. This year we had many submissions and an active voting thread.

I think you'll find similar patterns over time :)

Also check out local BuyNothing groups. Some allow you to post requests, and hopefully someone nearby has a mouse lying around

I'm also curious about adult ones, how would you rate the petting experience on a scale of 1 to 10

[โ€“] [email protected] 12 points 3 days ago

Good to know ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Is it safe to pet them when they're that small, and if so what does it feel like ๐Ÿ˜„

I've pinned your post in the community, consider it the event discussion post :)

I haven't played around with it yet, but it looks neat

This small but mighty update includes some exciting new features and improvements to Zen, such as passkey support for MacOS, and a media player controller that's fully integrated with Picture-in-Picture mode.

Pixelfed: "groups" are coming and they will be compatible with Lemmy (who knows if they will also be compatible with Friendica)

@fediverse

Groups are not new to Pixelfed, we have webUI support but the feature wasn't polished enough for use, until now โœจ

:pixelfed: Groups will be compatible with #Lemmy, #Mbin, #Smithereen and other projects, and will resemble Facebook Groups in our official app!

Stay tuned, we'll be shipping the updated Groups support in the app and webUI this weekend ๐Ÿš€

A big welcome to everyone that has joined these past few weeks, we're all very excited to have you joining us! You'll find that people are more than happy to help you get started and learn how to use the site.

If you feel up for it, go ahead and make a post in this community introducing yourself, asking questions, or asking about topics that you want to find communities for. This community is intended for this purpose!

We have put together some resources to help new users get started.

You can also read:

These guides were published very recently, and we will be updating them over time. If you find that something is confusing or missing, please let us know and we can improve them further.

Welcome to Lemmy :)

A few common issues:

"I'm not seeing all the content"

Lemmy allows you to filter out content based on the language, but some new users will set this incorrectly in their settings. Please see this post for help. You can also post in either this community, or [email protected] to ask for more help.

"I want to block posts with certain words"

It is possible to use uBlock Origin to do this in the web browser. See this post for detailed instructions.

I commented this in another thread, but thought that it could do with its own post.

It's a solid list to go off of if you want to pick a few to host. The link has more info on each, as well as which ones are non-profit / for-profit

  • computing: boinc, foldingathome
  • archiving: archivewarrior, zimfarm, kiwix, archivebox, pywb
  • storage: ipfs, storj, sia, transmission

This v1 list was started by the ArchiveBox project, but it's open to contributions.
