Any good European sport watches?

Was going to buy a new run watch, and thought I would switch from Garmin to Suunto. Sent a mail to customer support, and got an auto reply that Suunto is moving operation to China. Including app and userdata ๐Ÿ˜ข

Asked AI to break it down for me: This privacy policy update indicates some significant changes to how Suunto will handle your data, particularly regarding operations in China. Here's what it means for your privacy concerns:

Key Changes:

  • Suunto is transferring several key operations to their Chinese group companies, including customer service, repairs, web operations, and app development
  • These Chinese entities will now jointly collect and process your personal data alongside Suunto Oy (the main Finnish company)
  • Data will be transferred from the EU to China, which lacks GDPR-equivalent privacy protections

Privacy Implications:

  • Your personal data (likely including running routes, fitness metrics, location data, and account information) will now be processed in China
  • China has significantly different data privacy laws than the EU, with fewer protections for individual privacy and more government access
  • While Suunto mentions using "standard contractual clauses" (SCCs) to protect data, these are a legal mechanism that many privacy experts consider insufficient when transferring data to countries with intrusive surveillance laws

What This Means For You:

  • If you purchase a Suunto watch and use their services after October 10, 2024, your data will be subject to these new arrangements
  • Your running data, location information, and personal details would potentially be accessible to Chinese authorities under Chinese law
  • The Chinese companies will have access to and control over many aspects of your customer experience

If privacy is a significant concern for you, you might want to:

  1. Consider alternative sports watch brands with different data policies
  2. Research how data localization works with specific models (some watches can function with limited cloud connectivity)
  3. Review the full privacy policy to understand exactly what data is collected and how it's used

British and family owned producer of rawhide and other non-marring and sparking hammers. I've got a bunch of their stuff that I like to use for leatherworking - a big heavy rawhide hammer and a couple of lighter replaceable-face mallets.

Really good quality, very reasonably priced and quick shipment (although shipping is a bit pricey to mainland Europe, there might be local stockists however). Never had an issue with any of their products.

After nearly a year of regulatory hurdles, Meta has finally begun deploying its conversational AI assistant across the European Union and neighboring countries this week.

The rollout, which covers 41 European countries and 21 overseas territories, marks Metaโ€™s largest global expansion of Meta AI to date, though European users will initially access only a limited version of the technology.

European users will initially have access to what Meta describes as an โ€œintelligent chat functionโ€ available in six European languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Italian.

...

The AI assistant will be integrated across Metaโ€™s suite of applications, including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. Users can access Meta AI by tapping a blue circle icon within these apps to initiate conversations.

...

Meta has indicated this limited release is just โ€œthe first stepโ€ in its ongoing efforts to bring more AI capabilities to European users.

Iโ€™m looking for an application for managing of time-sensitive reminders. For less time critical things, Iโ€™m perfectly fine with having e-mail reminders. But for those โ€œdo at 18:00โ€ kinds of reminders, I was always using the default iOS Reminders application.

Now Iโ€™m trying to reduce my dependency on Apple ecosystem, so Iโ€™m looking for something that:

  1. is multiplatform (iOS + Android, no desktop application needed)
  2. allows sharing of lists with other people (for example, grocery lists that Iโ€™m sharing with wife that we can both contribute to)

Nice bonus would be if it wasnโ€™t behind a subscription, but rather a one-time payment. Is there something like that which is also European?

A logo I made in support of this movement. It's simple, but it gets the point across, lol. More are to be posted in the future!

I feel like a version of this guide gets reposted weekly, but it's always out of date.

u/theFallenWalnut over on that other site updates these regularly.

They also now link to [email protected] but I don't see anything posted there. Maybe a better place to start reposting these
