Hey everyone, first of all, thank you for participating, whether you organized with your community to submit a song, voted for your favourite, or just sent words of encouragement, it's awesome to see the fediverse come together and share music!!

This year saw the most participation and votes than previous editions, I tend to worry about the event flopping and not being interesting so I'm super happy that it's still growing blep dance

Without further ado, the results!

Congratulations to lemmy.ca (French Canadian), jlai.lu (French), and feddit.org (German) for an incredible top 3! I don't have much time today to share more interesting insights, but don't hesitate if you'd like to take a look at the csv file of the results 😊

Thanks again, I hope you had fun discovering new music, and I'll see you next time!!

I was curious on how the results looked with a standard eurovision style point distribution (where each instance gives points) instead of just average rank when looking at all the votes and figured others would be as well.

Due to certain groups having a lot more votes cast than others it tends to change the results a bit so that each group is evenly represented (instead of ones with more people having more votes to affect the average rankings. e.g. Germany has over a quarter of all of the votes cast)

In first we get Merz Leck Eier with a total of 84 points! It received 12 points from 3 different groups (Anime & Vocaloid, Programming.Dev, and UK)

Rounding out the top 3 is Limbo with 74 points and Fabienk with 66 points.

French avant-garde metal outfit Igorrr have just rolled out an official music video their song “Limbo“. That track is taken from the group’s fifth studio album “Amen“, which made its way out this past September through Metal Blade Records.

Speaking briefly of this new track, the band’s mastermind Gautier Serre offered, “It’s an endless battle between good and evil. Beauty navigates through evil, always keeping its head above the surface, even in the heaviest storm.”

Quand viendra l'an 2000, on aura 40 ans.

Went through and collected the current submissions I could find into one area (instead of needing to search through this community for them).

There's a couple where I don't know the category and I know there's at least 4 other submissions that will be arriving so I will be updating the collection as I get them (which I believe they should all be arriving today).

(If you have any suggestions for the ui of the collections, etc. or new feature ideas for it let me know since I'm the one thats been working on the feature for the site. I have no youtube playlist, etc. this time since not all songs are on youtube)

Link again in case your frontend doesn't get the first one

Over on !squaredcircle@lemmy.zip we had a song nomination thread and then a voting thread, with this song coming out on top. Just in case people go into the thread and vote later, here's a screenshot of the final vote counts. I'm also now realizing since I made the thread and comments I technically voted for all of them, lol.

Not only is our song the entrance music for AEW's Swerve Strickland, he also preforms it.

The rest of the songs in the running were:

2- ONE OK ROCK feat. Paledusk & CHICO CARLITO- C.U.R.I.O.S.I.T.Y

3- (Tied) AEW & Mikey Rukus feat. Just Joe- My Shadow Knows (Tommaso Ciampa Theme) and Semler- Chyna

Hi everyone, for this edition of Lemmyvision two fediverse related programming communities (Programming.Dev and D2Jam) teamed up to submit a song!

D2Jam is a game jam where people have 3 days to create a game. As part of this there are composers that make songs for the games with the music made listenable to on the site itself! There are many talented composers part of the community that currently don't get much attention to their work so we figured Lemmyvision was a good opportunity to help get more eyes on their stuff.

7 songs from the game jam were submitted and then voted on using ranked choice voting. In total there were 20 people who cast votes.

The winner of the voting and the song submitted to this edition of Lemmyvision is Markhamia Castle! This is a track made by Cristian De Santis (aka Cris03sora) for the post-jam version of Plant Runner.

Plant Runner is a parkour game where you need to get around terrain using jumps, wall running, abilities, etc. 5 tracks were made for the jam version of the game to play in the background while people parkour and then 4 additional tracks were made for the post-jam version of the game that released a couple weeks after the game jam with this being one of those 4 tracks.

You can listen to it on the linked site (using the play button below the title and waveform) and download it using the download track button on the sidebar

For those interested in the runner ups here are the other songs that were submitted to the voting

and there are many other songs made for the jam you can listen to on the music page on the site

Other Misc Info

D2Jam is a community centered game jam built on supporting things constructed by the community! It's aimed so that anyone can contribute to it (to run events related to the jam or contribute to things such as the site) and we construct things to help the community showcase their work (such as the music feature on the site, etc.)

The jam is not on the fediverse yet (hence the team up between Programming.Dev and D2Jam for this edition of the competition) but it's aimed to join within the next month. Currently the site has a forum on the home page where people can make posts. It's aimed so that people can make posts in other fediverse software (directly to it from places such as lemmy as if it was a lemmy community or using the d2jam hashtag from places such as mastodon) and then posts on it are federated out to those as well.

Programming.Dev is a lemmy instance that has many programming and other tech communities on it (including general programming, linux, programmer humor, privacy, opensource, godot, hardware, etc.) In Lemmyvision 1 game related music was voted on to be submitted with Your Inception from Casette Beasts being the submitted track.

For the inaugural entry of !anime@ani.social to Lemmyvision, the community voted to submit "Hunting Soul"!

This was an insert song created for the second season of Dan Da Dan. The group performing the song is credited as HAYASii, but that is actually a fictional group created for the show as well (pretty clearly based on the real-life band of X Japan). A fun fact about the English version of the song that was included in the dubbed version of the show is that the lead singer of HAYASii is none other than Marc Hudson, the lead singer of DragonForce.

Hey everyone!

The very real, not fish-themed Lemmyvision returns for its third edition! For those not in the loop, read below to learn more about this Lemmy Event:

TL;DR

  • From right now and until May 3rd, discuss with your Lemmy instance or community about which song to send to the contest.
  • Submit the song in this community by making a new thread.
  • On May 4th, voting will begin. You will rank your favourite songs in a form. Any song not submitted by this date will not be featured.
  • On May 11th, results of everyone’s favourite songs will be published.
  • You can use !lemmyvision@jlai.lu for any question, this will be the community for updates and results, make sure to subscribe if you’d like to stay in the loop.

What is Lemmyvision?

Lemmyvision is inspired from Eureddision (itself a reenactment of the Eurovision song contest) which was held on r/europe some years ago, and based on the participation of national communities / instances and the delicate musical taste of their members (you!).

Every country/community is welcome to participate! The contest follows the rule of “national languages only” but regional languages are welcome as well! Basque, Welsh, Cherokee… you’re welcome to promote a non official language if your community / instance wants to. The aim is to promote different languages and cultures from around the world, to share more between our online communities across Lemmy, and discover songs from lesser known artists.

How it works:

This post, and the !lemmyvision@jlai.lu community will be open until May 3rd, and I will start promoting the event on various instances and communities. Lemmy communities who want to participate have the responsibility to gather its members and vote on a single song to send for the contest.

On May 4th, the songs will be locked in. A playlist will be created to allow you to listen to all of the submitted songs, and everyone will be invited to vote on their favourite. The voting is estimated to last for about a week. On May 11th the results will be published, with a ranking of everyone’s favourite songs!

For the second edition, lemmy.ca was allowed to send three songs, each one in a different language (French Canadian, English, and Inuktitut, in their case). This means your community can send multiple songs if you want to showcase its different languages!

For the first edition, an exception was made for the programming.dev Lemmy community to participate by sending a song related to their main interest (they sent a video game soundtrack). If your instance or community does not represent a specific country or language but wants to participate by sending a song related to your instance center of interest, you’re welcome to do so! For example, lemmy.blahaj.zone could send a song composed by a Queer person!

I don’t expect countries with a “small” population to be accurately represented on Lemmy, so no worries if you don’t have a community and are just a small group of people, or if your country is not even on Lemmy but another platform (Kbin and whatnot), I can make exceptions, just reach out!

Song submission:

  • Each Lemmy community is responsible for their own organization.
  • Only one (1) song per language per community is to be sent.
  • If the song contains vocals then it must be in (one of) the official language(s) of your choice, or a regional language of your choice.
  • Songs must have been released after January 1st, 2025.
  • Songs must not be international hits[1].
  • Submit your songs in their own thread in this community
  • Verification will just require a link to the discussion thread created within your community, to ensure it’s a community (not a single person’s) decision.

[1] this is to prevent drama that happened in the past on Reddit, where Germany sent a Rammstein song and obviously won. It’s up to my own appreciation of what international hit means, because it’s hard to measure (metrics on different streaming platforms aren’t the same), but I’m pretty lenient, just ask me if you’re not sure, better to discuss than argue

Voting:

  • Voting will be done through a form created on tally.so.
  • I will set up the form near the end of the month, and share it in a new announcement post when the time has come.
  • If you’re worried about privacy, there will be no questions about personal data, and last year I deleted the form and its results a week after the event was done.

On Federation:

I don’t discriminate based on instances, if your account is not on the same instance as your community, that’s totally fine. Additionally, if you’re on another Fediverse/Activitypub platform and would like to participate, and you’re able to federate with your representing Lemmy community, you’re welcome to join us, I’d just like to keep organization within Lemmy so it’s easier to track participations.

Would you like to help?

The first two editions went really well, and I managed to handle the whole thing alone. Programming.dev even helped with setting up the playlist during Lemmyvision 1! If you’d like to help in any way, please feel free to reach out, I’d love to have as many people as possible involved!!

Cheers!

TL;DR:

  • From now until midnight CET this Lemmy community is now exclusively fish themed.
  • Submit a fishy song in this community by making a new thread.
  • On midnight CET all fishy business must leave the area at once.
  • On April 2nd, the actual Lemmyvision 3 event will start.

The contest follows the rule of “national languages only” but regional languages are welcome too, if your community would like to feature a song in a regional language of your country, that’s awesome. The aim is to promote different languages and cultures from around the world, to share more between our online communities across Lemmy, and discover songs from lesser known artists.

The first edition, an exception was made for the programming.dev Lemmy community to participate by sending a song related to their main interest (they sent a video game soundtrack), if your community does not represent a specific country or language but wants to participate by sending a song related to your instance center of interest, you’re welcome to do so! For example, lemmy.blahaj.zone could send a song composed by a Queer person!

Have a fin-tastic April Fools day, and see you tomorrow for the actual announcement!
