Yeah i dont think any from of UN like organisation between instance is even feasible without opening a can of worm when it comes to who has authority over the Lemmyverse, your ideas are a lot more thoughtful and elegant

The results are in!🎶

Some interesting data: #unplugtrump by Flong! and Pe Krieger seems to be a clear favourite congratulations to https://feedbeat.me/@Pe and https://mastodon.social/@FLOMB !! All the other songs are pretty close to each other. There has been more participation overall (more submission, more votes than last year), and a lot of people from non participating instances voted (their top 3 is so diverse I can't manage to discern a pattern), thank you!

A heartfelt thank you to the participating instances, I loved listening to your songs:

This marks the end of the second edition of Lemmyvision, of course the community will stay open if anyone wants to submit songs they'd like people to discover, or have feedback on the event. I'm going to work on making the rules clear but inclusive because there were a lot of cases I didn't think about, hopefully the third edition will be super easy to get into.

Thank you again for participating, it's always fun to see communities get together, and to discover songs from other cultures, I hope you've had a great time!!

Until then, see you at Sunnyvision, somewhere around summer 🌞

Cheers!

Reportage

That's scaled for me

I've been wondering about this for the past week and given the trouble Lemmy users have had with the Nicole spam, would it make sense for large Lemmy instances to switch to a whitelist approach for federation?

Instead of automatically federating with every new instance, what if we set up a system where federation had to be requested and approved? New instances could submit a request to federate, and the panel of federated instances could evaluate it before accepting. Any instance added to the white list would ideally be whitelisted across participating instances.

It might help with moderation challenges, reduce spam and bad actors, and give communities more control over the content that appears. BUT it adds unnecessary friction and turns the Lemmyverse into a closed space which goes against the idea of federation.

Curious what other people think and how we can brainstorm an approach for this kind of moderation issue long term.

Edit: please do participate in this conversation instead of downvoting ?

A map of the New York City subway/metro

Full size here : https://www.mta.info/map/5256

Old map here https://www.nycurbanism.com/map-store/1972-vignelli-subway-map

The new map was designed by the MTA’s Creative Services Mapping Department and, like many major subway systems around the world, utilizes a diagrammatic style, employing bold, straight lines making it much easier for the eye to follow and more suitable for digital users. The white background, bold colors, horizontal writing and use of black dots make the map more ADA-friendly and easier for people with low-vision or cognitive disabilities to read.

Designers also focused on text legibility, keeping text on one line wherever possible and making better use of open space to alleviate crowding and using a black subway bullet with a white character to provide maximum contrast for easier reading. The legend on the map is now more detailed and includes accessibility, transfer, and safety information, as well as a QR code that leads users to the MTA website.

Although this map is a new design, the creative team drew inspiration from previous maps including:

  • Preserving the official brand colors established by the 1979 and 1998 Hertz maps
  • Using a similar geometric and diagrammatic aesthetic introduced to the New York City Subway with the 1972 Vignelli diagram and revived by its successors, Waterhouse Cifuentes
