I dunno about the west, but i'll talk about my country (generally in the middle east)

Most people don't know what a "good" life looks like. Take this for example: you live under a brutal, autocratic monarchy that violently suppresses people that want change, and the working conditions/economy are pretty shit, too. That sounds like a pretty bad life, right? Well here, it's just the average normal day. You know what makes it more ridiculous? That some people like it here, despite all of these problems.

We don't really have anything else to compare our lives to. Everytime i travel to a western country, it practically feels like a different, almost perfect world [in comparison to here, ofc]. So we don't really know we live like shit, and i guess as a result of that we tend to be less depressed? I don't know.

Including this, is culture; suicide/depression is very frowned upon. It's the ultimate treason against life, and is not a sad thing, it's something to be ashamed of. This inclines people, even if they are suicidal, to stay in silence. And mental health is an almost never touched topic (for the developing world in general).

2000-2010's was just constant wars in the region (war on terror, civil wars, failed revolutions, genocides [ongoing]), and the government was much more oppressive. The religious police has become much weaker than before, and that's a good thing. The current ruler is still an evil, ultraconservative man.

The country's still in the shitter, it was just better than what we had before. (If need be, i'm not from the US)

Edit: I still prefer games from those times tho. Most modern games are shit :(

Shit, but I prefer this to the hell that was the 2000s/2010s.

Never heard of them, but reading their privacy policy:

When you register with Jottacloud, you provide us with your name, your email address and phone number hereinafter referred to as Personal Data.

I just use https://filen.io/ for storage and ente for pictures. Nothing wrong with jotta if it works for you though.

Also, ente is FOSS and self hostable. In that case it doesn't really matter where it's based.

Ah thanks, same problem still arises though :)

Well: So far we no nothing about "thundermail"; and mozilla is already struggling with just making firefox good. Why not tuta/posteo/mailbox.org/disroot? Why put all your eggs in one basket? I'm already feeling uneasy with just using firefox.

When i first heard the news, it felt surreal. But when that passed, i felt nothing.

I don't really know what to do or feel. I saw her only a few days ago, and that was the first time i have saw her in years. She barely talked, she had alzheimers. She didn't remember anyone. I remember as a child, seeing her handicapped but still able to have conversation and conscious.

I only have a few memories of her. It's so vague, since those were when i was 6 or something. The only clear memory is of her yelling at me as a child. Or maybe not her, my memory is unreliable.

Half an hour later, it sunk in. She's dead. I will never see her again. Just.. I don't know. I'm so confused. I'm a little teary eyed but the rest is just static. What of it? What do i expect to gain from this post? I don't know. I just wanted to tell someone. I just feel like shit.

A massive thanks to @LuanRT for providing the fix regarding to the extraction of the deciphering functions. Also, big thanks to @PikachuEXE for coming up with a potential alternative solution!

Yesterday, reports emerged in the Vietnamese infosec community that two popular banking apps – BIDV SmartBanking and Agribank – were using hidden / private iOS API to detect other apps installed on users’ iPhones.

This behavior was initially highlighted by @opa334, developer of TrollStore, on infosec.exchange two days ago and later in a Facebook post on Vietnamse J2TEAM forum. The controversy quickly gained traction because such behavior suggests a violation of Apple’s policies and an invasion of user privacy.

Therefore, we conducted a thorough technical analysis of the mentioned bank apps BIDV SmartBanking (v5.2.62, updated on Mar 14, 2025) and Agribank Plus (v5.1.8, updated on Mar 25, 2025), detailed in this write-up, which also examines implications for users and the banking apps.

انا موافق معه, أيش بيضر لو طولنا رمضان؟؟

Since 2022, with Android 11, Google removed this access from app developers. Under their new package visibility policy, apps should only see other installed apps if it’s essential to their core functionality. Developers must also explicitly declare these apps in the AndroidManifest.xml file - a required configuration file for all Android apps.

For extremely specific use cases such as file managers, browsers or antivirus apps, Google grants an exception by allowing QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission, which provides full visibility into installed apps.

I don’t use Android as my primary phone, but I have a spare one and I was really curious to find out which apps from Indian companies had checks to see what other apps I had installed.

So I downloaded a few dozen Indian apps I could think of on top of my head and started reading their manifest files. Surely they will be respectful of my privacy and will only query apps essential to their app's core functionality? 🙃

I remember watching this a couple of years back, it was amazing. I highly recommend you watch it too :)
