Custom DNS only for iOS and MacOs. Come on...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

And if you need the parental controls and other advanced filtering offered by third-party DNS services, you’ll get your chance when we add Custom DNS to our iPhone and Mac apps.

Does that mean I could use my PiHole and use my own Blacklist? That would be great!

Seems like this Lemmy Account + the blogspot Blog is AI generated. Uses only generated Pictures, the formatting on this blog is kinda weird and the topics are very generic. But I could also be wrong.

I recently got my mom to download epub books. A small victory.

Probably. It's a shame that meat is so heavily subsidized. Without the subsidies, meat would be far too expensive for normal earners. In my country (Germany), for example, you pay 19% tax on oat milk and 7% on cow's milk. Because cow's milk is considered a staple food...🤡

"...plants have not been shown to perform the proactive, anticipatory behaviors associated with consciousness..."

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

Because I think it is wrong to kill an individual if it is not necessary. Calorie intake is not a legitimate reason if it can also be plant-based.

Here is my prove: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8052213/

TL;DR: Abstract

Claims that plants have conscious experiences have increased in recent years and have received wide coverage, from the popular media to scientific journals. Such claims are misleading and have the potential to misdirect funding and governmental policy decisions. After defining basic, primary consciousness, we provide new arguments against 12 core claims made by the proponents of plant consciousness. Three important new conclusions of our study are (1) plants have not been shown to perform the proactive, anticipatory behaviors associated with consciousness, but only to sense and follow stimulus trails reactively; (2) electrophysiological signaling in plants serves immediate physiological functions rather than integrative-information processing as in nervous systems of animals, giving no indication of plant consciousness; (3) the controversial claim of classical Pavlovian learning in plants, even if correct, is irrelevant because this type of learning does not require consciousness. Finally, we present our own hypothesis, based on two logical assumptions, concerning which organisms possess consciousness. Our first assumption is that affective (emotional) consciousness is marked by an advanced capacity for operant learning about rewards and punishments. Our second assumption is that image-based conscious experience is marked by demonstrably mapped representations of the external environment within the body. Certain animals fit both of these criteria, but plants fit neither. We conclude that claims for plant consciousness are highly speculative and lack sound scientific support.

We slaved colored people for ages. Woman had much less rights back in the days. We lived in caves for decades. Etc.

Just because we have been doing something for a very long time and it is socially accepted does not automatically make it right.

Would you say that cutting a carrot is equal to cut the throat of a cow?

Plants do not have a central nervous system or a brain so they are not able to feel pain or emotions. Animals can feel, dream, have friends, same as we do. Just not as complex.

Eating and using animals when there is a plant-based alternative is wrong and should not be done.

Hello! I use 2 Lemmy accounts. The first one for everyday use, the second one for specific, more anonymous use. They both are on the same instance and follow the same communities. But when I look at the same community, with both accounts, I see not especially different posts, but on one account the oldest Post is 7 months old, and with the second account I see every recent post.

It's like im shadow banned or something. Yes im 100% sure its the same community. Even if i go on the profile of my main account I can only see 2 out of 25 posts.

EDIT: The answer to my problem was my language settings! Lemmy blocked a lot of posts because of this. Quite interesting for me because I didn't know that. If you have set your language to Belgian for example, you will only see content from people who have set their language to Belgian. Even if their posts are written in English. But you can set multiple languages by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on your preferred languages. This is not solved well in my opinion.

Ohhh boy.... how many posts I probably missed because of this....

It seems like this community is unmoderated since 2 years. Unfortunately only admins are able to post, so this community is condemned to death. I would like to bring this community back to life (If it ever lived).

I have recently started to care more about my privacy and anonymity, so I am just scratching the surface and still don't know much about it. I know that you should not log into any accounts with sensitive information while using the Tor browser to prevent your identity from being leaked. What about websites (like Lemmy, Masterdon, etc.) that can't leak personal data because I never provide any directly? I use Mullvad + alias email addresses to log in.

What if I logged into my Lemmy account outside of Tor without a VPN one single time? So Lemmy should have received my real IP and location at some point. Could someone find personal data because of this single, unprotected login while I'm browsing Lemmy through Tor?

Thanks for any answers and explanations!

I love his Music. Every few weeks I have to watch this video. The crowd in this video is so incredible energising and gives me a sense of togetherness and hope in mankind.

Even though my setup is relatively high, it bothered me that my mixer was just sitting straight up. I was getting neck pain. So me and my dad decided to build this stand out of some spare wood he had in his garage. I was just going to make a prototype to see if I liked it and then make it out of some proper wood, but I liked it so much I decided to just keep it.

This was my setup in 2020 when corona was hitting hard. I bought my DDJ-RZ and gathered my first experiences in 2016. After 4 years of fiddeling around I convinced myselfe to go all in and buy a used Xone:92 from ebay for just 800€! My first turntable was a PLX-500. Because it is belt driven, It was quiet hard to beatmatch with it, but after a while I got a feeling for it and had a blast! Mixing vinyl is so much fun! When my father-in-law found out about that, he gave me 2x SL1210 which he used back in the days when he owned a Nightclub! They were in bad condition but I deep cleaned them and managed to fix some issues with my semi-good soldering skills (Just shocked me one time!).

Meanwhile I have 2 XDJ-1000mk2 (You can see my setup in my latest Posts.)

This was part of a local Art event. It was all attached to a rotary motor which rotated 720 degrees in each direction.
