Yeah even if America makes it through, give it 70-80 years... if I'm even around then I'll go telling people that fascism can get in government again and again if people don't stop it.

This is the perfect chance for someone to comment somewhere on there or Redditalternatives sub (not me because I'm not posting to Reddit anymore) the [email protected] community.

And if you want to take recruitment efforts one stel further, make posts to our cyberstuck community, then take screenshots and add lemmy links in "cross-posts" to relevant Reddit subs!

It's okay, make the Republican DoJ go crying to the SCROTUS every time and make the judges put their name beside every mockery they make of justice and the rule of law.

History books outside the US (and within if it survives this) will tell of all the important characters, Trump, his yes-men, Musk, Roberts et al., Mike Johnson and the 200-odd house (R) Reps, Mitch McConnell and 50-odd (R) senators, the 10 (D) Senators that wasted the perfect opportunity to stop them, the many (D) reps that cared more for decorum than democracy, the billionaires and corporations, rightwing media, Russian psyops and the sanewashing media owned by billionaires, Biden, Harris and Obama doing little to stop the rise of culture war and fascism, and lastly and definitely not least, half the American voting population for being dumb enough to fall for ultimately the most transparent con. These are the characters of the World History chapter titled: What the Fuck Went Wrong?

Why yes, companies should just eat a 104% tax for the mere privilege to put a keyboard or any other product of China in the hands of a US resident. The only companies that could survive any burden-sharing arrangement better than 20/80 are those cheap and unsafe Amazon products that don't work, or are near monopolies and screwing you one way or another.

Did the article change headline after you posted? It says "barely" mentioned Gaza, not never. And the article brings up two instances it was talked about, one in passing more focused on Trump. Don't spread misinformation, m'kay?

Aha! So there are the "non-tariff barriers" coming from the penguin island! This giving away an OS for free is so unfair to poor Microsoft and Apple.

My outlook lately has been so positive lately that’s difficult to put into words.

Right there with you... the trusting and uncompromising relationship with our largest trading partner is burning to ash, I'm losing hundreds of dollars of money I've invested every day... yet strangely I feel better about most of the world's outlook (outside the USA) than I did for most of 2024 and early 2025.

...Canadians are responding with passion, engagement, and enthusiasm.

This is the primary thing for me. Watching Americans sleepwalk into Trump 2, forseeing Canadians following like zombies into the same path with Poilievre's victory nigh-guaranteed, left a deep pit in my stomach.

Despite tough times on the horizon across the world, I feel like I (and by extension we as Canadians) found something that was missing for a long time... identity and purpose as a nation, and connection with each other. There were some reassuring movements towards positive change like the Loblaws boycott (I'm still doing that btw), but the pervasive feeling was "nothing I do will change much against all-powerful forces".

The massive, overinflated threats and bluster from Trump have awoken something in people here, unity amongst Canadians, despite our differences. We are just a few steps away from uniting with our African, Asian, Australian, European, Latin American and South American brethren who all must be feeling the same way in response to unjustified levies, threats and small bully tactics from the USA. I can't help but feel we could do something big with this. Patriotism is a helluva drug.

I guess America needed a declaration of emergency in domestic timber supply, caused by the declaration of an emergency of having friends as trading partners for timber 🦫...

I wouldn't usually wish toxic gamer chat lobbies on anyone, but Elon Musk is one of the few for which it is well-deserved.

A popular feature of BlueSky that really gets new users' feeds going is their Starter Packs.

Mastodon Migration Blog is replicating this good idea for the Fediverse with follow packs. These are csv files that can be downloaded and imported into Mastodon to follow a bunch of users around a topic.

The federal government recently passed two bills into law, C-244 and C-294. These make it not a copyright violation to break or bypass a digital access control to software/hardware you ~~own~~ have legitimate access to, for the purposes of diagonstics/maintenance/repair, and interoperability respectively. Article from The Sarnia Observer

iFixit has applauded the move but says it still keeps bans on the sale and sharing of tools designed primarily for digital lock bypass.

What are your thoughts?

The ruling coalition in Japan's Lower House is facing a resounding defeat, and an opposition coalition government could be on the horizon.

This was made possible in part by Proportional Representation. Looking at the latest election data:

https://www.nhk.or.jp/senkyo/database/shugiin/00/tousen_toukaku_hirei.html

The ones with a white cell on the right column are PR representative-elects, and grey cells are the candidates that won their local district in a traditional tally.

One major beneficiary is the Japanese Communist Party (violet), who only won 1 race in the FPTP portion, but because they had sizeable supports nation wide, has 7 total seats at the governing table.

This doesn't only help 3rd parties. The incumbent (red) and leading opposition (blue) parties locked in dead heats in many races, have elected some candidates from the PR field. That way the voice of the group that made 2nd place are not fully lost on the final result.

Just put it on the side streets - Doug Ford's gaslighting compromise might work in some cities like Montreal and Vancouver but aren't well suited for Toronto and its suburbs.

Mmmm. Roasted ham.

Hey everyone, just a reminder in case you hadn't seen it or forgot from months ago, the Canadian official e-petition is at this link as part of the Stopkillinggames.com campaign. Maybe we can get some clarity from our government on what our rights as consumers are when buying access to video games.

Signature collection ends at 9:30am ET/6:30am PT on Thursday 5 Sept 2024.
