Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Summary

Elon Musk denied reports that he plans to step down from his role as a special government employee, calling them “fake news.”

The White House and Musk both rejected claims he would leave at the end of his 130-day term on May 30.

DOGE has faced backlash for rapidly dismantling federal agencies and cutting tens of thousands of jobs, prompting lawsuits and threats against Musk’s team.

Well yea, he won't step off. He will get pushed off by the other sycophants. He failed, lost favor with the King so the other courtiers will push him aside. US government now has the same political system as a Medieval Kingdom.

He didn't fall, he did all the stuff Republicans really wanted to do but knew they'd be punished for electorally. If they push him out before the midterms and blame him for everything, they could limit the electoral damage by escaping responsibility. He'd be happy to take on the role of scape goat.

[–] Magister@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This looks like the best answer.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 17 points 11 months ago

All except this part

He’d be happy to take on the role of scape goat.

I think he underestimated how much everyone would hate him. He's used to suck ups after all.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 34 points 11 months ago (1 children)

To cut those kings and peasants some slack, medieval kingdoms weren't nearly as centralized and Kings didn't have nearly as much power or leeway as the American President. You're probably thinking of absolute monarchy in the modern age.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 18 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah. I guess it's closer to Louis XIVs court, just with less shitting in the hallways. Hopefully.

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 11 months ago

with less shitting in the hallways

I'd say that DEPENDS on a certain point of view...

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 30 points 11 months ago (2 children)

haha this is the bold "I got shit on trump and willing to spill it if I'm told to leave" we were waiting for. Go on. .... tell us what it is you're 'hiding' so well.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemm.ee 12 points 11 months ago

Nah, it's just a rumor started most likely by Musk himself. Pretty sure it was a ploy to halt the Tesla stock sell offs. It started around the same time another rumor that the Tesla board was going to ask him to step down.

It's the same trick trump was doing his last term, lie to publishers and then accuse them of not being trustworthy for printing unsubstantiated rumors.

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

Rudy pulled the same maneuver and it didn't work out for him.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 16 points 11 months ago

Power is never relinquished willingly.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

"Fake news" lol it's what his buddy Trump is telling staffers, seems like maybe he should have a talk

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich fear for their lives

[–] blurcosp@leminal.space 5 points 11 months ago

This piece of shit fears for his life already and is still going.

Nothing will meaningfully improve until their graves become public urinals.

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 14 points 11 months ago (2 children)

So as a thought experiment, if he does get pushed out by Trump then he'll have been rejected by the right and the left. What in the world would the world's richest man do at that point to redeem himself in his eyes? Any chance we can inception him to go to war against oil or something positive like that?

[–] Fredthefishlord@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 11 months ago (2 children)

He could go buy a small country or something

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Maybe go back to South Africa and buy the Apartheid back.

[–] MrMcGasion@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

Considering USAID was instrumental in the ending of Apartheid, it would not surprise me if that's part of his plan already.

[–] BleatingZombie@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Nah, the tariffs there are crazy

The only people who care about that shit are common folk. Tesla is still doing well because those who care about money still think he's a tech genius that will invent the next great idea - robots, AGI, space colonies - and investing in/high evaluations of Tesla is investing in Elon.

Elon's feelings might be hurt if commoners reject him, but he's still going to have plenty of friends and opportunities. Once you're wealthy, your social circle stops being about other personal values and become entirely about money and power. Which he still has plenty of.

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 1 points 11 months ago

He'll still have plenty of friends, but he obviously feels the need to be in the public spotlight. He could easily retreat into a private life and have a great time for the rest of his life but I don't think he'll do that.

[–] ctkatz@lemmy.ml 12 points 11 months ago

this is excellent news.

the public already hates him. and by wrapping his arms fully around the republicans the people will hate them both even more.

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 9 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Lol, they were doing damage control, and Elon accidentally exposed yet another lie.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

Good. Stay the shitface for people getting fired and social security and medical payments being withheld. May Teslas stock drop to zero.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemm.ee 5 points 11 months ago

Concerning.

[–] oakey66@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Even if he did, damage done.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 11 months ago

Fall guy convinced he won't be used as fall guy.

Since the moment this fuck cozied up with the Soiled-Diaper-Tiny-Handed Rapist, everyone predicted it was just a matter of time before this ran its course.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 11 months ago

well yeah. the fake news is from them. trump implying to try to have cake and eat it to again.

[–] Allonzee@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

I, for one, support Musk and Trump using their respective cudgels of capital and government to beat one another bloody.

If we're going to burn, and it looks like we absolutely will, why not have a little entertainment?

[–] ShellMonkey@lemmy.socdojo.com 2 points 11 months ago

President Musk has copies of the pee tapes...

[–] ssroxnak@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I bet he'll stick around and continue being the fall guy for Republicans. Their base will continue to place all the blame on Musk while the Republicans fuck us all.
