When the people vote with wallets, the rich get tens of thousands more votes.

A single rich friend will compensate a boycott from thousands of impoverished people who could already barely afford their goods in an instant.

Like, still do it; our actions are a reflection of our values. But don't make it your only plan.

The only people who care about that shit are common folk. Tesla is still doing well because those who care about money still think he's a tech genius that will invent the next great idea - robots, AGI, space colonies - and investing in/high evaluations of Tesla is investing in Elon.

Elon's feelings might be hurt if commoners reject him, but he's still going to have plenty of friends and opportunities. Once you're wealthy, your social circle stops being about other personal values and become entirely about money and power. Which he still has plenty of.

Yeah it feels like a weird way to say that humans still have vestigial signs of a cloaca. It's understood that evolutionary ancestors did, so humans' ancestors would need to have separated the functions during their evolution... I guess the news is that there is still genetic evidence even today.

Alternatively, creationists can take this as a sign a creator considers butt stuff to be natural sex also 👍

Natural groundwater already has some fluoride in it; it's the potability processing that takes it away. So of course a lot of places put it back in.

I see the push to remove it in my country, too. People claim is kills children's brains - but the amount of fluoride to do any damage is so insanely high. You would die of literal water poisoning several times over before you ingested enough fluoride.

Literally anything hurts you if you have too much, that's what 'too much' fucking means. Deciding something is bad because it has an unreachable 'too much' is like refusing to eat bananas because of Chernobyl.

The water here is extremely hard and has a lot of lime. Limescale is inevitable. Yet I don't see people complaining about drinking rocks? Who benefits from blaming fluoride? Where is this fear coming from?

Neat.

I think that social media (which is much broader than most people think) isn't really the issue. It's a tool being leveraged by the real danger. As you say, Lemmy hasn't been bought and sold by special interest groups.

The way social media is leveraged is very harmful, but those groups are also leveraging other media (particularly the news). I would blame our ibcreased social division on the special interest groups that benefit from, and promote, social division.

IMO blaming social media itself for our woes is like blaming the ocean's plastic on straws. It ultimately let's the real damage continue while blaming the everyman's suffering on their own consumption.
