It certainly proved spending decades lobbying for lower corporate taxes turning public education into utter ruin made our society, and I use that term very loosely as we really aren't, largely incapable of critical thinking and highly susceptible to confidence schemes.
Reminder: Americans believed slavery was just, genocide was just, segregation was just, and eugenics was just. Unless people are taught to critically think, reason, and empathize with their fellow humans, we are little more than feral beasts.

Since Reagan got his former opposition party on the take, all we've been voting on is the speed of decline as good cop(D) and bad cop(R) encourage us to hate one another and be divided over the social issue symptoms of the captured economy we don't get a vote on.
I vote blue out of harm reduction. But democrats still don't give a shit about mass murder for private profit, mass homelessness, income inequality, on and on. They affirm your identity instead of scapegoating you, which is nice, but is also free for their mutual donor's quarterly profit expectations.
What good is being free to be who you are when you're dying of exposure and police brutality under a freeway for failing to produce enough value for the owners?
If there's another real presidential election, and if a democrat gets elected, we'll get four years of relative quiet but the situation will continue to grow darker as the DNC will not allow the capital markets to be reigned in, which means even if we avert this fascist march, the table will still be set for them to continue their march in four years. Wall Street must end. And it will, by our hands, or capitalist made climate change in a couple decades when it no longer matters for our species.
Republicans have proven they're willing to burn themselves alive, as long as their never ending list of enemies burn beside them and they get to watch.

Trump is a just big dumb animal who has been using his wealth to leverage confidence schemes his whole life, and used his instincts as a grifter to steal the Republican base from the old guard Republicans. He really doesn't deserve as much credit as he gets. It was Reagan that furthered the Welch corpo vision of paying off both major parties, and convincing the peasants to vote against their own interests with the promise(aka lie to the suckers they see as less than human) of golden showers of prosperity into today. This was happening with or without Donnie. If anything we can see more of what's going on than establishment, old money conservatives would have allowed because Trump is a big, dumb, loud animal.
This country wasn't over as of last November. This country was over as of November 1979.
What is needed is mass acceptance of that, and for smaller nations to emerge. Let the Science/reason/empathy have some land and build a nation, and let hatred/bigotry/willful ignorance/religion have some land and build a nation.

I phone banked on two Sanders campaigns. This didn't start with Trump or even in most of our lifetimes. Both parties, and yes most voters of both of them, would rather set the country on fire than have anything resembling economic equity or someone having their basic needs met without a subjective judgement of "deserving" it. We could have ended homelessness inexpensively at any time under any administration, we could have made prison rehabilitative, it would have literally saved the country money to invest in both, yet I've heard more Democrats and Republicans speak of such desperate populations as the problem instead of the society that put them there.
This collapse was a choice we made over and over again.

Earth needs to shake us off its back for the sake of terrestrial life. To put it in terms the rest of my species understands, we're a liability to the larger organization, and bring no redeeming value to the planet. As such, we should be summarily terminated.
