Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Summary

Former Trump national security adviser John Bolton called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to resign following a tense White House meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky that ended abruptly.

The February 28 meeting, meant to discuss a ceasefire deal, devolved into an argument when Zelensky expressed skepticism about Putin honoring any agreement.

Bolton told MSNBC that officials should resign when leaders pivot "from understanding American allies to backing America's adversaries."

After the meeting, Trump dismissed Zelensky as "not ready for Peace," while Rubio criticized the Ukrainian president and defended Trump.

"Disgraced former trump Yes Man tells current trump Yes Man he should say No"

[–] SeaJ@lemm.ee 79 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He was actually more of a "no" man. And to Bolton's ideas, Trump was a "no" man to him. If I recall correctly, Bolton was pushing for Trump to bomb Iran and Trump (rightly) refused. They did not particularly care for each other.

Bolton is a war mongering whacko but he is correct here. That meeting was a disgrace.

I wasn't debating if he was right. I agree, Rubio should resign. I would bet no one gets a job for trump without telling him they will do exactly what he wants without question. I am pretty sure they are just being more mask off about it for this administration.

That is true now. That was far less true in the early Trump admin (at least compared to now).

I love when people make counter arguments, but don't provide any proof. "Just trust me, bro"

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

If there's a person who knows from experience, who should also know that they'll ignore him.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He's trying to clean his reputation.

[–] roguetrick@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago (2 children)

No, Bolton doesn't see anything wrong with being a viscous warmongering bastard. He wouldn't consider his reputation as needing cleaned. He'd argue for the US to put boots on the ground in Ukraine and annex it with indirect rule. His type is the ones that Russia uses as boogymen to justify their imperialism as "fear of NATO."

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 year ago

You probably meant to type vicious, but viscous is also perfect. He's both ruthless and slimy.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

...he can know other people have a problem with being a warmongering bastard.

I call on Marco Rubio to drink a gallon of bleach.

[–] jimjam5@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As long as elon and trump pledge to chug first.

[–] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'd rather set the three of them up as a human centipede, then have the first drink bleach.

[–] roguetrick@lemmy.world -4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Wouldn't work out. Bleach isn't toxic, it's just basic depending on how concentrated it is and a bleaching agent of course.

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He'd do it if Trump said to.

[–] crawancon@lemm.ee 15 points 1 year ago

BLEACH FOR SOME. MINIATURE AMERICAN FLAGS FOR OTHERS.

[–] Geobloke@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago

We could probably get Hegseth to do it if we put it though a beer bong

It’s weird to see John Bolton saying something reasonable.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 year ago

It makes sense though. Bolton is interested in further enriching US arms manufacturers by prolonging the proxy war. If Trump formally allies with Putin, the fighting will end relatively quickly and thus stops the gravy train.

[–] SilentStorms@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 year ago

Sure, but John Bolton can fuck right off as well.

Go write another article about how we should nuke Iran, dipshit.

So glad that fuck doesn’t have any influence anymore.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But no call for Little t and JD to resign? Coward.

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You would think after his last time in the news cycle I would stop reading his name as Michael Bolton... Apparently not...

[–] NielsBohron@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Why should I change my name? He's the one that sucks."

~Michael Bolton, probably

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

No body anywhere cares what John Bolton thinks in 2025.

[–] FoolishObserver@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Bolton told MSNBC that officials should resign when leaders pivot "from understanding prior American allies to backing the current America~~'s~~n administration's ~~adversaries~~ allies."

Fixed it?
