I believe Fedecan's next project should be to set up a matrix instance to keep our comms secure within Canada.

I'm going to join this. I was disappointed there was no Canadian instance when I joined earlier. This is hosting started today?
We've been setting up for the past week or so, and we opened registration yesterday :)
Excellent! When pixelfed was growing I was going to join but abstained as there was no .ca instance yet. On and hoping to be active!

I think we can both agree that the Peertube instance can come last as that would be the most difficult with the storage requirements.

Self host Immich. It's a Google Photos clone and has the same look and functionality.
I think it still leans on containers as a crutch. Having been in security and build too long, it's a no from me.
Nextcloud self hosted. Pikapods is European and super easy but someone else can chime in with Canadian options.

Its nice, but Memories app as part of Nextcloud is better and Nextcloud completes the rest of the Google suite (Drive, Calendar, Notes, Reader, Podcasts, Hangouts)
If you're going to put in the time, Nextcloud has more value.
I absolutely love this app. I dropped my iCloud Photos and moved to this self hosted via docker.
I paid the base license for this. I now theyβve changed the way they do things for the underlying license, but for me, itβs been great!

Selfhost your own instance of Immich. It's an open source Google Photos clone, but with better features!
While it's not an exact replacement in that it does all files, we have been happy with our recent switch. They have a desktop and mobile apps that handle all the syncing.

Delpoy Nextcloud with the Memories app. It's a google photos clone that has the Nextcloud ecosystem behind it which means you can replace Drive, Notes, Reader, Podcasts, Hangouts and more.
I use Syncthing to keep various folders synced between my desktop, laptop, phone and tablet.
Most of the folders are just between laptop and desktop (writing, art, etc...) and my phone's camera folder is set up to share to the desktop so it syncs as soon as I take a picture.

As a Finnish-Canadian Iβm all in on this trend. Iβve already switched out the majority of apps and subscriptions to European alternatives and have been buying European products for a while now, even chose the car with that as one of the criteria. Iβd love to hear about good Canadian products that I could buy that are available in Europe.
Does anyone know where lemm.ee is hosted ?
Our servers are currently in Finland, but this is subject to change if necessary for financial/technical reasons. We've also used German servers in the past for example. In general we're definitely staying in the EU, though.
Best I can find officially is "not the US".
Lemm.ee servers are not hosted in the US and therefore not subject to US jurisdiction.

Well, ".ee" is the country TLD for Estonia. Doesn't guarantee it's hosted there, though, and I have no idea what the rules for .ee domain names are (whether they're restricted to residents or not). My guess would be "hosted somewhere in Europe".
