they went to afghanistan as it was a hot spot for terrorists in particular the taliban and al’queda had training camps there for the terrorists who did 9/11

the usa attempted to turn the country into a democracy and move the country beyond being a 3rd world hole but because afghani’s are largely tribal goat herding muslims who have no care for a “state of afghanistan” (or women) the plan failed and the taliban who are largely violent islamic fundamentalists got back in power with little resistance from the locals … who just wanted to go back to hating women and tending to their goats

similar in iraq

generally the people of a country get what they want, i can see in iran there is a growing consensus that they do not want an islamic regime in power

if the us was to kidnap the supreme leader it would be an amazing opportunity for them to ultimately be free

but it depends on what the citizens of that country are willing to fight for

the best modern example is Russia trying to take over Ukraine (again) and the Ukrainians fighting back, they have help from Europe etc but even if they didn’t they wouldn’t have just sat on their hands, they would be fighting today a guérilla war in kyiv like they have in the past

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 1 points 26 minutes ago (3 children)

both of those countries got what they wanted, usa out and taliban in

if Venezuelans want freedom and democracy they’ll still need to fight for it, not assume the us will hang around forever

or to quote the op “You don’t get what you dream about… You get what you strive for step by step!”

how lucky you are that since 2016 you’ve somehow avoided hearing trump speak even once

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 1 points 33 minutes ago (6 children)

who cares they have shitloads of oil, the most in the world afaik and you can play trump like a fiddle by giving him what he wants and flattering him, this is a huge opportunity

How is it possible you have this in your bio:

“You don’t get what you dream about… You get what you strive for step by step!” Atsuko “Akko” Kagari (Little Witch Academia, 2017)

Then you post something like this.

People are cheering as the dictators poster is torn down: https://files.ikt.id.au/hwdeza.MP4

Your opposition leader who has been fighting for democracy has said:

‘US fulfilled its promise’: Venezuela oppn leader Maria Corina Machado on Nicolas Maduro ‘capture’

It's TIME FOR FREEDOM! Venezuelans, starting today, Nicolás Maduro faces international justice for the heinous crimes committed against Venezuelans and citizens of many other nations. Given his refusal to accept a negotiated solution, the United States government has fulfilled its promise to enforce the law. The time has come for popular sovereignty and national sovereignty to rule in our country. We are going to bring order, free political prisoners, build an exceptional country, and bring our children back home,” Machado said in a statement in Spanish published on X.

This is your opportunity to get what you strive for step by step and you are already blowing it.

Capitalists want others to loose money so their comparative wealth keeps growing

Yes and capitalists are overwhelmingly not invested in war...

I don't know why you think anyone with capital from Joe HomeOwner to the largely female CEO's of the worlds biggest chaos merchants are all on the same page of selling weapons?

As of Jan. 1, the CEOs of four of the nation's five biggest defense contractors — Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics and the defense arm of Boeing — are now women

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/01/02/how-women-took-over-the-military-industrial-complex-1049860

I can assure you the average capitalist does not want their house blown up, they want to sell iphones and go to sleep.

I have them on my notification list and already watched while realtime-updates were coming in in parallel.

They're so good! I know they are a 'tldr' but it really feels like fit the info of a 30 minute news broadcast into a solid 10minutes, a lot less interviews with random experts who babble on

Any bets how long it will take for the other mentioned conflicts?

China I reckon will either start pushing buttons or move towards pushing buttons

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davidson_window

Europe is tied up with Russia, America has an imbecile for a president, China has clearly moved into the front seat when it comes to tech and it looks like it's only a matter of time before they are beating the US at its own game

ehhh after reading https://www.bfmtv.com/economie/international/elles-representaient-96-des-revenus-du-pays-avant-l-embargo-americain-les-gigantesques-reserves-de-petrole-du-venezuela-au-coeur-de-la-crise-entre-washington-et-caracas_AD-202601030187.html I think you've got credence but having thought about it I have to admit deep down it doesn't really bother me

maybe it's chopper style morality, the Venezuelan government was evil and awful, if the US takes it out and gets oil for itself so much the better, I hope the Venezuelan people benefit from not being under a dictatorship and it doesn't turn into a Libyan style hellhole, I know María Corina Machado has been someone I have been cheering for so it does look like there is a credible stable government available:

In 2025, Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy".[11]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar%C3%ADa_Corina_Machado

A bit like if the US invaded North Korea for oil, tbh I wouldn't be crying for Kim Jong Un or protesting the US, sometimes it is what it is, a bit like Syria having multiple bad guys fighting each other, sometimes there's no one to cheer for

I want the exact opposite for Ukraine and Greenland and anywhere else that are objectively good guys

hopefully at least by 2027 I can spell Venezuela without needing spell check

I’m not defending the Venezuelan government.

Yes you are, you just apparently don't seem to realise it

But this 100% a US imperialist war for natural resources. This is their bread and butter

ok straight to conspiracy theories, cool

I've had enough left wing conspiracy theories for one day so I'm out

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (4 children)

Australia has to keep out of this

I mean it looks like an entirely self contained war between the US and Venezuela that has nothing to do with us but Frog has put:

Let the PM and the cabinet know we won’t accept another US imperialist invasion.

Fuck that, they can invade all the way as far as I'm concerned, you won't find me standing up for

The Board alleged that Maduro administration could be responsible thousands of extra-judicial killings, more than 12,000 cases of arbitrary detentions, more than 290 cases of torture, attacks against the judiciary and a humanitarian crisis affecting hundreds of thousands of people.[264]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicol%C3%A1s_Maduro#Human_rights

He is an absolutely vile evil human being, I'll leave it to you humanitarians to stand up for him

People in Venezuela cheering as a poster of the evil dictator is torn down:

Left wing progressives in Australia: noooo 😭 lets get out there and protest 🤡

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone -1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

I argued that destruction renews demand

No you didn't, you said capitalism loves war because it gets to sell destruction, it was then explained to you that this is the broken window fallacy, you then doubled down

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_broken_window#Opportunity_cost_of_war

Also, during ww2 few large companies and their stake holders profited most: Ford, IBM, IG Farben

And who cares about them now? is Ford or IBM a monopoly? lol?

The demonstrations [in Iran] started with merchants closing their shops in protest against deteriorating economic conditions and have spread from Tehran to about 32 cities across the country. What began as a movement to express economic grievances has widened in scope, with protesters chanting against the Iranian government.

Students and activists have begun chanting “death to the dictator”, referring to the 86-year-old supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and “woman, life, freedom”, echoing the 2022 protests that paralysed Iran.

As the protests have grown, so has the government’s concern. Iran’s president, the reformist Masoud Pezeshkian, initially announced he had instructed authorities to listen to the “legitimate demands” of protesters and said he was seeking dialogue with protest leaders.

At the same time, Iranian human rights groups allege security forces have used deadly force against protesters. The New York-based Center for Human Rights in Iran said on Friday that eight protesters have been killed by state security forces and dozens more injured. At least 119 people have been arrested for their involvement in protests, according to the human rights activists news agency.
