“The impact is far-reaching for people’s safety in their neighbourhoods and downtown cores, with violent offenders being better monitored and kept off our streets for longer,” Nina Krieger, minister of public safety and solicitor general, said in a statement.

Dolphins have often been considered “pesky critters” who steal fish from the orcas, according to Sarah Fortune, assistant professor of oceanography at Dalhousie University in Halifax and Canadian Wildlife Federation chair of large whale conservation.

But that’s not what was happening — on deep, deep dives below, the dolphins and orcas were communicating.

"As Canadian as possible under the circumstances" was what Peter Gzowski's listeners decided in 1972.

Can we do better?

The reef, which spans about 1,800 square metres, at the Lynn Creek Estuary in North Vancouver, was completed earlier this month in a partnership between Neptune Terminals and the University of B.C.

Matt Simmons, execution planning lead for Neptune, said four barges worth of rocks — about 4,000 tonnes — travelled by barge and tug from Sumas Mountain in Abbotsford to the terminal for the reef, which is intended to create a more complex habitat for marine life down in the reaches of the estuary.

In response to questions from The Narwhal, a spokesperson for B.C.’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy said, “The Elk River watershed is one of the most intensively monitored and studied watersheds in British Columbia, with detailed programs to detect and assess impacts from coal mining and other development.”

But that isn’t leading to peer-reviewed studies from government scientists. The spokesperson confirmed: “We do not produce publications for peer-reviewed journals.”

The plan in Flin Flon, however, is different in scope. The closest comparable is a project in the remote Swedish town of Jukkasjärvi, where for the past four decades, a fully-outfitted hotel is built each winter out of ice from a nearby river.

The deal follows other contracts recently signed with the government, which include wage increases of three per cent in each year, and the Facilities Bargaining Association says it also has gains in support for recruitment, retention and workplace safety.

A statement from the Finance Ministry says the workers will also receive wage comparability adjustments in response to the 15 per cent wage cuts made in 2004 by the former Liberal government.

This is thanks to Ravi Kahlon and a government with the guts to enact his policies.

A vacancy rate around four per cent wouldn't be big news in most of North America — but in Vancouver it just happened for the first time in four decades.

Brodie’s increasing instability, paranoia, erratic behaviour, and abusive conduct.

Finally, someone the people of Vancouver-Quilchena can really get behind!

A notice posted on B.C.'s Forest Operations Map website shows the yellow cedar was felled in an area where Matchlee Ltd. Partnership, majority owned by Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation, holds a non-renewable forest licence.

He "got quit".

British Columbia Premier David Eby received approval from more than 93 per cent of delegates at the NDP's convention two years ago, and he's hoping for another "healthy majority" at this weekend's convention in Victoria.

The announcement came a day after the Supreme Court of Canada declined to hear an appeal to save the flock at Universal Ostrich Farms, where avian flu was detected last December.

The CFIA said in a statement that after consulting with experts, it concluded that “that the most appropriate and humane option was to use professional marksmen in a controlled on-farm setting.”

  • Controllable by a simple, easily understood scripting language. Lua for example.
  • A sense of time and date.
  • Powerful regex interpreter.
  • Open source.
  • Documentation. Maybe a wiki?
  • Easily configurable for each instance so that admins aren't afraid to install it.

I bet they are just going to take the Nordic Horizons DLC from ETS2 and change the language on the signs.

Wind and rainfall warnings have been issued for a large portion of British Columbia on Thursday, as Environment Canada is forecasting 110 km/h gusts and 140 millimetres of rain throughout the day in some areas.

The town first proposed in July that it had reached a conditional agreement to purchase the nine-hole golf course for $8.5 million. Plans for the property include housing, parkland and a refurbished golf course.

Officials say money from the development and sale of homes on the golf course would go towards the purchase. Last month, an anonymous donor pledged $2.1 million if the town keeps 40 acres, or about 16 hectares, of the 42.5-hectare property as parkland.
