Why would anyone be ashamed of owning a WRX STi?

Why would anyone be ashamed of owning any Subaru?

[–] Damage@slrpnk.net 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I fucking love mine, best car I've ever had.

[–] swag_money@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

nothing beats a Subaru in the snow! we're just getting hammered with snow up here and it's no issue for the legacy.

[–] Damage@slrpnk.net 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Lol someone went and downvoted all the Subaru-positive comments.

[–] swag_money@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

probably somebody that spent more for a less capable car 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, home would be a lot better with kia

It’s actually a regular wrx with a sti wing and they don’t want anyone to know

Yeah, usually the debadged cars I see around me are 3-series and other entry-level luxury sedans. I think the owners want to try and trick people into thinking they're actually driving an M3, etc.

If you debadge an M3, RS3, etc then I think that's actually a pretty cool flex

I guess it might slightly reduce the chances of getting stolen.

Because of other STi owners?

The top reason: the badge fell off for some reason, and I do not care enough to replace it.

Somebody tore the logo off my Honda Accord in a Chicago suburb parking structure

[–] Kitathalla@lemy.lol 1 points 10 months ago

Or in my case, half fell off and that just won't do... but then the glue still is half on and now it looks worse, so let's just cover it with a bumper sticker, eh?

Those Subarus are cool though.

It’s a saabaru

[–] spankinspinach@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

Drive it fast enough in reverse and urabus

[–] dunz@feddit.nu 1 points 10 months ago

The weird thing is that the SAAB version, that's supposed to share a lot of parts, had a different wheel base even, because they changed so many things. SAAB being SAAB, they lost money on most 9-3x and 9-5x

It's so that people have a harder time saying "yes officer it was a Toyota Camry" unless they're familiar with the body style enough to know it isn't a Honda Accord without the markings. "A truck" is less descriptive than "A black Dodge Ram 1500."

Look, avoiding Undercovers is half the reason I can tell a car by it's headlights or taillights, so sorry Nissan Altima with paper plates, I can tell you're a 2008 from 150m, day or night.

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 10 months ago

Not everyone is as adept. (And that Altima was probably recently purchased used, tbf lol).

Also I've seen a ~25yo undercover minivan with the paint half worn to primer in my area, that trick is less reliable here since 2010ish.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 3 points 10 months ago

Even better if you put the badge of another car on it.

Another reason to do it (in my area): you want to pay a fine for illegal car conversion!

it comes and goes but some years school age kids will gain a car emblem theft fixation. I lived on the same street as a high school and every second year or so any remaining emblems on cars parked outside would be stripped off
