AFAIK, standing all day isn't any healthier than sitting all day. No idea about the last panel tho ...

Pure anecdote, but as someone with a long, shitty back, I definitely noticed a marked improvement in how my back felt when I switched to a standing desk.

Maybe that's part of the reason I can't sit still too long, for I too have a long, funky back.

My back feels better, but my hips are killing me

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 2 points 10 months ago

I'd get pain in my feet (flatfoot) and my lower back about one hour in.

Are you standing all day, or are you swapping between sitting and standing throughout the day?

[–] platypode@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 months ago

I stand all day. When I first switched I alternated when my legs got tired, but that only lasted a couple days.

You’re suppose to move around throughout the day. Being sedentary is what makes it unhealthy. Standing in the same place all day is as bad as sitting in the same place all day.

Offices are bad for our health.

Back in the day, every single video game used to have a little note on the box, in the manual or even on screen when starting it up that you should stop playing every 15 to 20 minutes to walk around and look at something other than a screen.

Haven't seen that warning in multiple decades now. And I doubt it was ever shown on office software.

Hybrid desks are where it's at. As soon as I start to get uncomfortable sitting in up like a meer cat. Then twenty minutes or so later back down I go.

A Home Assistant standing desk controller exists. I don't have a standing desk, but if I did I'd have it automatically rotating every half hour.

I heard hanging all day can have some adverse effects

[–] Probius@sopuli.xyz 47 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Would this actually be healthier, or would it be just as bad as sitting?

[–] hmonkey@lemy.lol 41 points 10 months ago

I don't know, but I actually do want to try it

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world 34 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The constant bouncing would definitely be a lot more exercise than sitting.

[–] Probius@sopuli.xyz 7 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Hmmm... does this mean bouncing my leg all day counts as exercise? :P

Are those supposed to be the bouncy things rhat young children have?

They exist for adults too, but I've only ever seen extreme versions at carnivals.

Wow, I’d forgotten about this strip! I used to start my day with several comics and they were one but that was years ago now
