Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Would being shitty to trans people be okay if they did make egg prices cheaper?

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

By executive decree, we're all now females, so we can't even be shitty misogynists.

Nongender, actually. The EO specifies "at conception". No sexual characteristics have been developed at that stage.

[–] HowAbt2morrow@futurology.today 16 points 1 year ago

Depends on how low the prices go /s

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I know you two are sorta playing off each other, but I think most of us agree that no, it wouldn't make hurting innocent people ok.

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Still $9 "low price" at Ralph's in the Los Angeles area...

[–] xtr0n@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’ve been paying $8-9 for fancy organic farmer’s market eggs for years. It’s wild to me that the basic Kroger brand egg now cost that much but my fancy eggs haven’t gone up in price.

[–] Jumi@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

8-9$? Holy shit, that is expensive. Here in Germany a 10 pack organic eggs is somewhere around 3€.

[–] alquicksilver@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

Costco was about the same per dozen (business costco had 15 doz for ~$137) and they're supposed to be cheaper because of membership fees and buying in bulk. But, hey, at least those damned trans folk are miserable! That's all any of us ever really wanted, right?

Oh look, another brick wall on which to bang my head until I do enough brain damage to understand the ~~reich~~right.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes but that's Ralph's. I've continued getting $4 eggs from Sprouts which is just their going rate. (Although their $9 pasture eggs are lit).

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Was just at sprouts and they didn’t have any. Same as last week

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I think it helps that mine is a new sprouts so it's not as frequented. They do have a notice saying there is a shortage though. I don't think their pasture raised ones are impacted directly, but the loss of the cheaper eggs still makes it in higher demand.

[–] penquin@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Does this actually sell? I personally buy it from Costco for $3.95 and I've lowered my eggs ~~consumerism~~ consumption(fuck Gboard for wanting to speak for me) from 5 - 7 eggs in the morning to only 3 now. And if this shit keeps going up, I'm stopping it completely.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Are they having a fire sale?

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

We need some stickers with trump on them saying "I did that" on the overpriced egg signs

[–] cabron_offsets@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

The policy on egg prices is “go fuck yourself”.

Only up $0.65/dozen since his inauguration from the already record high price...

[–] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

There's a trans/egg joke in here somewhere...

[–] magikmw@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you're having egg problems I feel bad for you son, I've got 99 problems but a hen ain't one.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 42 points 1 year ago (3 children)

That's going to be really confusing when a fully passing trans person goes up to customs or TSA and it's clearly wrong. Although then again my ex had her old picture still and the looks she got were pretty funny (that was decades ago, though, when this wasn't being used as a scapegoat).

[–] earphone843@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 year ago

That's the point

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is going to be a problem for trans people exiting the country too. When I got to Britain a few days ago, my passport was scanned by a machine and matched with video of my face inside the booth with the machine. I have a feeling that the machines will have issues if the passport photo shows them presenting as a different gender.

[–] donuts@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Glad you made it, squid! I can tell you there's nothing to fear with those eGates, as they check the photo, not your gender.

Regardless, it seems like you got out at the right time.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I get that they check the photo, I'm saying that if they're not going to allow you to express your real gender in a passport, they're almost certainly not going to allow you to express it in your passport photo.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The scanners check around ~100 data points like

Distance between the eyes

Width of the nose

Depth of the eye sockets

Shape of the cheekbones

Length of the jaw line

presumably with a bunch of failsafes and a tolerance threshold for acceptability. Something like facial hair, makeup, glasses, haircut won't even blip it.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Good to know, thanks!

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

The point is to cause confusion and potential harm. Yep yep yep

[–] Jimmycakes@lemmy.world 40 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The Publix by my house is completely out of eggs what are these fucking morons doing. Every cabinet member needs to be tending to a hen farm.

[–] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I'm just picturing them all standing around trying to encourage the chickens to lay more eggs.

[–] GroundedGator@lemmy.world 25 points 1 year ago (2 children)

How will this actually be enforced though? Some states allow changes to birth certificates. I doubt they are going to start doing genital exams or asking people for doctors forms. Seems the only viable option would be to add it to the affirmation you do when getting a passport, "Do you swear you were born with a penis?" Which means someone who might lie could have punishment.

GOP doing what they do best, attacking the marginalized because they are scared and can't fathom that their box doesn't fit everyone.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 23 points 1 year ago

The confusion is part of the strategy. It's much easier to attack a disorganized enemy, in this case, the American people.

[–] DrabPoultry@midwest.social 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Do you genuinely think the government doesn't have any trace of whether or not you have changed your gender marker?

Bureaucracy is kind of their whole thing.

Maybe it's just because I'm in a red state, but I know for a fact my state keeps track of that. I'm probably going to a camp very quickly.

[–] yukichigai@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do you genuinely think the government doesn't have any trace of whether or not you have changed your gender marker?

Depends on how the state does it. California amends birth certificate in most cases by leaving the previous version of the document as an addendum to the current... except in cases of gender change. If any person or agency queries the document they see a single page that reflect the updated gender, no history.

(They also do this if your name has a slur in it that you want removed, which is nice)

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If your name has a slur? Like Scunthorpe or something?

[–] yukichigai@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 1 year ago

There was that family in NJ that literally named their kid "Adolph Hitler", so I gotta figure there may be some parents that have given their kids even worse names that aren't any sort of Scunthorpe problem.

[–] Fandangalo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I changed my marker during Biden. My state made it very easy. It’s a liberal bastion in the NE, and I have an X for NB.

But, yeah, I don’t feel exactly safe. If they made me change my marker, I wouldn’t have much concern psychologically (I’m more gender abolitionist), but I feel like they wouldn’t do much asking and would just rather “remove me” from society or whatever.

It’s not great, but I know some of my trans homies have it much worse. Going through years of HRT, therapy, etc., transitioning, and then finally getting to a marker and identity that aligns with you…only for this group to push you to change it back (or again, potentially worse outcomes).

It may be a time of setbacks and shitty outcomes, but Pandora’s box is largely open. While the trans population is small, a lot of people know a trans person now. Hell, Elon is bitterly related to one.

Even if they killed all LGBTQ people, you can’t eliminate this population like genocide: it’s an idea or identity.(“And ideas are bulletproof” jk) You can’t kill these feelings out of existence forever. Queer people will always exist.

Senators confirmed Rubio by a vote of 99-0 on Monday evening.

With the Ohio seat of Vance vacant, that's unanimous with no abstentions. In case you thought Democrats, Angus King, or even BERNIE were going to stand in the way of the fascist machine 🤬

[–] chlopczyca@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Gotta respect those senate norms. Could you imagine what chaos would be unleashed if the dems even pretended to care more about trans peoples' safety than making sure the confirmation votes are as unanimous as possible? Heaven forbid the opposition party oppose anything!

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Damn what the fuck

I might actually leave

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Just went to grocery store. No eggs.

[–] demizerone@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Shit's really going to hit the fan when limes for a margarita go to $5 each. Where I live in CA the migrant farm workers are not showing up to pick. No one I know will do that job.

[–] Winterfrost@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago

Conservative values (sighs)

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 year ago

Fuck the economy, who cares if people are poor, we just have to do the right thing here, we can't let people just be happy how they are, we have to ruin their lives and then everything will be nice again

[–] enbyecho@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Fuckers. I was about to renew. Fucking fuckers. Fucking fuckety fuck fuck fuckers.

Screw this guy

[–] BadmanDan@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Is this not just full on discrimination? Trans people pay taxes too. They fund these dirt bags checks.
