"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

NEW YORK (AP) — Another wipeout for stocks tied to the buildout of AI data centers is overwhelming Wall Street on Thursday and more than erasing all its gains from the day before, which was its best in three months.

The S&P 500 fell 3.5% after opening with a loss that accelerated through the morning. It’s on track for its worst drop since President Donald Trump shook markets worldwide in April 2025 after announcing his “Liberation Day” tariffs.

Better yet, there is a lot of purchased hardware and resource that is sitting idle, counting down the debt bomb they all borrowed on. And it will be due soon. Crash is coming, it's only a matter of time

Ed Zitron must be salivating right now

This is GOOD news. We're letting air out of the bubble and, hopefully, healthily redistributing it across the economy into BUSINESSES THAT DO SOMETHING WITH VALUE.

Hopefully this bubble doesn’t kill those businesses.

Productive business will be cannibalized by government and their parasitic business allies soon, unless the democrats grow a spine, which isn't in the cards unless we change the game here, (I hate that phrase as used by business but it fits here.)

BUSINESSES THAT DO SOMETHING WITH VALUE

Those businesses specifically.

[–] untorquer@quokk.au 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Would someone please think of specifically those businesses that do something of value

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, they have my thoughts and prayers.

I guess any shred of care I have for a business stops at the IPO.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not all businesses are evil companies trying to suck the life out of workers at the benefit of their personal yacht fund.

[–] untorquer@quokk.au 3 points 1 day ago

No not all. But after IPO you're a majority share from it at any point in time. That's a decision a company makes.

If you want my concern shift to an employee owned worker co-op model with a sustainable market strategy. Not always a prefect solution but at least growth doesn't inevitably become your sole driver.

Well done, internet person.

Long overdue, the layoffs began a while ago. They'll blame the Democrats and the midterm, but this has been something coming for the past year.

Good. More, more!

Took some of my stock with it even though I don’t own AI stock

The healthy ones will recover. I imagine there will be a few 3% dips over the next months. I wasn't expecting it in a single day though, lol.
